Re: Camera rental recommendations

Depends on the brand you want but the Canon "Test Drive" scheme is excellent and comparatively cheap provided they have what you want. I've used them for cameras, lenses and a converter in the past.

Skye in May, mainly birds with one other aerial phenomena!

Our now annual early May holiday on Skye provided some great photo opportunities with some stunning birds. The pair of Great Northern Divers caused dinner to be delayed one evening while I grabbed a rather rare chance to get 2 summer plumaged and calling adults in the same viewfinder at the same tim...

Re: Canon RF 2x Extender

Eventually, the promised selection of RIAT images with the 100-500 and RF 2x. Exact info should be in the EXIF. They're sized at 1600px wide but seem to display larger on here than that...?? I have to admit they look a lot better (sharper) on Flickr or at 100% in Photoshop than they do on here... ht...

Re: Canon RF 2x Extender

I used the Canon 'Test Drive' scheme to trial one at RIAT last year as there were no RF 1.4x available. Will locate some of the better results and drop them onto Flickr when I get a chance - plenty to throw away but some surprisingly sharp ones in the middle of sequences with the 100-500 even at ful...

Re: Canon RF 200-800mm

I also rejected the idea of a Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM. It's light, fast focusing & provides fantastic image stabilisation via the IBIS system. All good, BUT they're are umpteen really bad focusing examples been sold. :astonished: I must have been lucky then when I chopped my 300 2....

Does the heron fly much (more than the B-1s)?
I didn't see it fly in the hour I was there but it does occasionally from photos I've seen although it takes off a lot quieter and with less flame than the B1s...

Ooooft! Just a who's who of the season's biggies!

Really want to get my birding / twitching mojo back but being buried in the Cotswolds is a nightmare to get anywhere fast and easily. Maybe one day!

If the B1s don't fly, give the Heron a try!

Just down the road from RAF Fairford is a long-staying juvenile Purple Heron at Whelford Pools Nature Reserve. It shows well from the hide closest to the car park and I called in there a few days ago before work and didn't have to wait long for it to appear and start fishing. It's still there today,...

Re: Is this lens worth buying moisture issue

If the lens was originally 'weather sealed' then this seal has failed and will only allow moisture in again. As for the image quality not being affected, I beg to differ as dry moisture will leave a residue of some sort so you'll have a film of dry moisture on at least one of the lenses leaving a sl...

Coningsby home team & RSAF Arrivals

Being fortunate to have to overnight nearby on Sunday I blagged a few more hours on Monday to try to catch the RSAF Typhoons arriving. I managed that but the weather was not on side nor was my ability to realise that the marked 1000k hours jet was blurred to you-know-what by the jet efflux of the bi...

Advice on assorted Die Cast models & unmade Airfix kits please...

Dear all, I would very much appreciate a few pointers regarding the below die-cast models and model kits I have been asked to find homes for as part of my in-laws' house clearance. The temptation is eBay to make things simple but given the number of model enthusiasts on the forum I thought I'd try h...

Re: Canon Users.

the 100-500 L is supremely good, and about £500 or so more than than the 100-400. Which isn't too much more if you're considering that sort of investment, especially for the lens on offer. Can add a +1 to that - I ditched my 300 2.8 and 1DX for an R6 and 100-500 as the weight of the former was gett...

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator Returns

Now I've finally got myself a rig that can handle this, as my d/l speed is only about 300 KB/s (due to location) is there any way I can download a scenery area, eg UK, and just run this offline or am I just wasting £100 on something that is 100% reliant on what basically amounts to a fibre internet ...
