Re: Aviation- On This Day

1996, and a full on airshow at Airbus Broughton, rather than the usual friends and family day. It was to celebrate the silver jubilee of Airbus. Notable due to the crash and rather miraculous escape of the pilot of a Venom from the Source Classic Jet flight. Having said all of that, I was working/mi...

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000

Lovely! I'd forgotten that snoopy had corporate logos applied to the tail actually. Best remember it without! You're right, there was some trepidation around the move. Not least because from day one our expectations had been set by DBH that numbers would necessarily be down due to airfield capacity....

Re: Aviation- On This Day

Huge Kudos to Andy with the 74 shots. Now that's what I call golden oldies. Some great stuff from Waddington over the last few days. It is very much missed. Despite the disproportionate amount of stick the event used to get from the enthusiast community. A single shot from the RAF Chicksands Friends...

And I genuinely enjoyed chatting about it. There is so much we didn’t talk about, given the time constraint. Maybe do another one sometime if folks enjoy the nostalgic material.

Re: Another Brick in the wall - the Buccaneer

Great stuff Nigel, lovely shot of 988, so pleased at least one survived to be seen around in the original scheme, I think your take off is 1989 IAT and not up on here before. Quality scanning too. Yep, the take off is 89. Here's another shot of 988 in 91, in the static https://live.staticflickr.com...

I'll add a handful posted already, but you can't marvel enough at the display take-off https://live.staticflickr.com/4451/24264645528_7fa4eb92df_o.jpg and the revolving bomb bay door in mid revolve https://live.staticflickr.com/4459/38085461792_49c13c960d_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/4443/381...

Re: (R)IAT - Special Schemes!

I'd have an overwhelming number if I posted all the specials I've seen at IAT/RIAT over the years. I'll keep it to some choice cuts mid 80s to mid 90s. Wishing I'd started younger, as we all do. https://live.staticflickr.com/4450/38085209122_4c5468849c_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/4449/380623...

As much as I love my local pub - and I adore it - nope, not likely. Its going to be chaos. :confounded:

But then you would need to arrive very early to avoid being in the overspill car park!
One would assume that capacity is reduced from that of a standard show and that cars will all be on the main field?

Re: Drive-in airshows?

Its true, that in the days of parking on the airfield a lot of spectators stuck by their car. And still do at Cosford and a couple of others. Great for general spectating. For photographers though, getting that bit nearer the action, and being able to see the aircraft operating on the ground, drives...

Re: Battle Of Britain 80: The Night Shoot

Good lord. That's an extra tenner to get a bit closer and to see two running engines folks. So for 65 notes you don't get right up close, and the aircraft don't run. You did read that correctly.

Great scenes there Andy. Those Waddington barriers, eh?! A very modest one from me today. £50 for a motorbike with one maybe two on board. Mmmmm

Brian
Motorbikes are 25 quid, no SVAS membership needed.

Well done to Shuttleworth for getting an event together, and good luck to anyone going. I can imagine it has the potential to work well.

Bits of it, certainly. I can't quite work out where the crowdline would have been though as you seem to be in various locations - were flying jets parked crowdside? The tower remains, the building behind the Spitfire looks familiar (the Squadron I think?) and the characteristic poplar (?) trees rem...

To North Weald in 1986, for the Fighter Meet. This was a really interesting event, as the warbird collecting bug was starting to bite on the UK scene. Corporate sponsorship by Northwest Orient airlines brought some very interesting participants too. And not all fighters. Shots taken over yesterday, ...

Re: Olympus Camera's R.I.P. ?

An OM-1 is a classic Chris - still worth a few bob. Get it out of the loft and stick it on a shelf, classic cameras are very cool things. That said, Mrs WM definitely and most strongly disagrees when I suggest such a thing, so maybe Mrs C will too :-) The OM-2 was also a classic, and Zuiko lenses we...

But why is the 'United Kingdom' lettering gold? navy would be better, matching the navy in the flag, surely. Why do the oversize serial and corporate "Royal Air Force' look like they've been placed by a kid with a sticker book?

Have some taste and decorum, for goodness sake.
