Re: Doncaster Sheffield Airport,lease signed!

It will be interesting to know what they will do differently to make the airport viable this time around... I have to say, does the UK really need 6 airport running across a narrow belt? Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, East Midlands, Humberside and again, Doncaster.... How many do we need???

Re: Interesting Internet

Is the hardstanding surrounding the old HHA sheds being used for temporary accomodation so they wanted these well out of the way? Seems an odd decision to vacuum pack them and leave them there. Is the Buccaneer in the process of being wrapped or unwrapped? :face_with_monocle: No, the sheds aren't b...

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2024

I will pass on the message (it's the first time that I personally recall hearing that information) - back in the early days those doing the work went into a 'recycling' phase i.e. using up spare paint (perhaps not our finest hours); the most noticeable representation being the grey/green tail surfa...

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2024

Its great to see an AOP9 in a museum but its such a shame that the restoration team got the colours wrong... I pointed it out several times in the early days of the restoration.... The cockpit area tubing should be Satin Black on an AOP9, not primer grey.

Re: Bruntingthorpe Cold War Jets 2014

How long will the contract with Cox Automotive last? The sad thing is that the larger jets, all corralled in an enclosure at the other end of the airfield, will easily start to deteriate if not maintained. It’s hard to believe the three large jets have a long term future. We are unlikely to see fas...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I can’t understand at all why the Vulcan to the sky trust haven’t already started dismantling the aircraft. At least drop the engines, start to disconnect the system etc. They have pretty much 4 months to get her moved off the airfield and at this moment they still don’t know where she’s going. It a...

I'm pretty sure that the reason a single blade is painted yellow (its the same on the SAR Seakings) related to airfield lighting and night ops... I dont know the numbers but airfield lighting run at XX Htz. That means that the light pulses on and off XX times per second. If the rotors a turning at t...

Re: Antonov aircraft - filling the void?

Its an interesting question Andy.I have been wondering the same thing with regards to the An124's that are currently outside of Ukraine. I understand that they are still active and operating for Antonov Airlines, but what will happen to these aircraft when they need maintenance? They cant go into Uk...

I am very sad to hear of the passing of Sqn ldr David Thomas. David was perhaps best known as the Vulcan Display pilot, but to me he was an inspiration and a mentor in my early years. With the exception of my Dad, I don’t think any other person offered me the help, support and guidance that David of...

Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.

This feels like such a shame to me. I was really happy to hear that WT327 would be coming back to the UK, only to have my hopes dashed when I heard she was in the hands of VTTS. I don't believe that WK163 will ever fly again, and now, we've just 'destroyed' another cancer in the process. I think its...

Answer is very easy to find on Wiki, but pasted here anyway: If everyone removed their ‘easy to find on wiki’ questions there’s be even less stuff on here than there already is. Surly the idea of a forum is to ask a question and then read the follow up discussion..... last time I looked there wasn’...

I think Doughnut is right. I'm pretty sure that this is an 'airshow' back patch produced by Terrane back in the early 90's. Terrane did a lot of work for the TR-1's at Alconbury back then. This was probably made for an Alconbury / Mildenhall airshow.

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

Based on statements that have emerged over the past couple of days, the TBAG group is moving to Kemble, David Walton is trying to put up buildings to house aircraft next to the 'Q' shed, just outside of the airfield (he owns the Comet, Nimrod and Victor) and the VC10s have been asked to leave by Oc...
