Re: Interesting Internet

Not convinced. Are these aeroplanes based at Cambridge? Doubtful, there aren't any photos I've found of them at Cambridge, just a Twin Otter at Duxford where an aircraft seems to reside at Duxford during our summer most years. I’m not referring to the aeroplanes, and not to Cambridge Airport The Br...

Re: Interesting Internet

Don’t forget that the BAS themselves are based in Cambridge, so it makes some sense to have them nearby for equipment to be installed etc.

Re: Interesting Internet

It’s one of four Twin Otters in the BAS fleet. I’m not sure that they are strictly ‘Duxford’s Twin Otter’, just because they make occasional visits to ARCo for maintenance in the Antarctic winter season.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 Wishlist:

I saw the US Demo at Sanicole and it wasn’t a patch on the Danish one. Lots of boom and zoom with gaps between passes. It was still nice to see it though, any jet demo is a bonus these days.

Re: Interesting Internet

Two short-fuselage ones were retained by the RAF, as two long-fuselage ones were lost on operations. I suspect the ones bought by Turkey will be the 12 operational long-fuselage ones, excluding the Boscombe one which, I believe, has a funky experimental software configuration. That leaves three unso...

Re: Interesting Internet

They were knackered by the time the RAF had finished with them. A number have had their centre wing sections replaced by Marshall, and at one point enough kits had been ordered from Lockheed to do most of the remaining examples (from memory, it was all except one aircraft that had spent much of its ...

Re: Interesting Internet

I suspect we’ve seen the last of the Swiss and Canadian F-18 demos. With the Spanish one seemingly on hold since their crash at Zaragoza last year, next year being probably the final year for the Danish F-16 demo (if it happens at all) and a question mark over the Polish M346, we’re rapidly running ...

Re: Duxford Sunderland to move outside

The far end of the Land Warfare Hall (the D-Day section) is already closed. Sone vehicles have been removed (the Jagdpanther which was in the restoration hangar has been used to fill one of the gaps) Nothing officially has been confirmed about any vehicles going to Pima. The source of the story was ...

Well the latest defence cut announcement says they’re replacing the Puma with EC’s so the cat seems to be out of the bag! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2k0292v0w1o.amp Nope. The H145 order was announced almost a year ago, for just 6. See my earlier post. A bit of smoke and mirrors going on t...

Re: New Medium Helicopter - Discuss

Without the assault ships, do they now bin off the Commando Helicopter Force, give the Merlins back to the RAF, cancel NMH, and close one of Benson/Yeovilton/Culdrose/Middle Wallop?

They bought a batch of 6 civilian H145s off the shelf (not the militarised H145M variant) to replace the Pumas in Brunei and Cyprus

Not at all. The Vietnam War Flight Museum on their website and Gofundme page clearly state that the intention is to fly it. Whoever ‘Fighterman’ is, he is only repeating information from the museum themselves.

If they think they can transport it back to the US and then rebuild it to fly, all for $100k, I do question how much serious research they have done

Good luck to the new owners of this aeroplane, better to be sold on instead of rotting at Kemble, because that would surely be its fate otherwise. New owners? Who has it been sold on to? Tell us more! I got the impression from the OP and a number of subsequent posts that the aircraft has been gifte...

He still has and regularly flies the Spitfire XI (up for sale), Soviet Spitfire IX and the *NotaRedTail* P-51D.

Although I believe he keeps his DA current, he hasn’t done any displays IN the last couple of seasons AFAIK

Seems very limited information out their apart from air display fdd is R5 so experience on flying side will have to see about rest
I have literally no idea what most of that means. What’s an R5?
