Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Records. 25 Hercs (at least) in 1979 27 (?) Phantoms in 1983 ? Dakotas/C-47 or variations thereof in 1985 11 (at least) KC-135sin 1985 36 C-130s in 1994. Your first record is rather outdone by your last one isn't it? 🧐🤪 1979 was the 25th anniversary of the Herc’s first flight ; the aim had been 40 ...

Does the UK Tour mentioned on the DDS website just mean North Weald, Shuttleworth, Duxford and RIAT?

Sadly I'm away again for the whole D Day week having also missed it in 2019
They will be back in the US by RIAT

They will also be at Upottery in early June

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

I think Marche Verte have confirmed for Motril this year. That’s probably a relatively short(ish) hop for them, but they’re still around and display flying, I guess. I saw them at Toulouse in 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed their routine, flying the first part of the display while tied together with bi...

They’re already attending events at North Weald and Duxford, as well as transiting to France on that day.

If you want to see Dakotas at Old Warden they will be there this coming weekend.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I was referring to the F-15, I should have made myself clearer. There seems to be an assumption that, if an F-15 is announced based on the engine noise in the SM posts, it will be flying rather than static.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

New guess the sound on RIAT socials, definitely sounds like a Pratt & Whitney engine, maybe a nod to the Polish F16 being announced in the flying display this week? Got to be an f16 surely. As much as I'd love one it'd be a miracle if we got an f15 flying and I agree that sounds like a p&w ...

What a catch! Shame it's not done up in the camo they have on the B-models, but still a sight to see.
It was delivered to the Afghan Air Force at one point, you can still see where the round Afghan national marking on the fin has been painted over, so is still in that same basic scheme.

Re: Interesting Internet (Historic Aviation)

The crews still need to practice a display routine and have it approved for PDA before they do any shows, and they have no Dak to practice on this year unlike in previous seasons. I guess East Kirkby will be disappointed this Saturday, with their ‘Lanc, Tank and Military Machines’ event advertising ...

Received my e-ticket on my mobile this morning, this may sound daft but can you still display them at the gate if you can't get a signal ? what alternatives are there or am I being silly ?
Just screen print it and save it to your photos. That’s what I do with all my barcode tickets.

Blackcats, Apache and Chinook I hope.
AFAIK there is no Apache demo again this year.

Most of the British bombers had a single pilot, an exceprion being the Stirling, which had two. The BBMF Lancaster was converted postwar to allow for two pilots.

Apparently Poland have a C130 Demo? The only one in Europe according to a post by European Airshows and is displaying this year, that would be something different indeed. I’m not entirely sure what it consists of. At Radom last year it was a single flyover with a flare dump. It is down to display a...
