Re: Battle of Britain Airshow 2020 - Cancelled

I chased them in September. I agree, I probably need to do it again. But why do I have to? I don't need to do this, year after year, for other organisations.

Re: Battle of Britain Airshow 2020 - Cancelled

Obviously I don't have any refunds for September yet. Nor do I have membership cards for the Premium Membership I renewed in July. In both the previous 2 years I have not received membership cards until I have chased it up months after the event. I appreciate they are "rather busy", but I don't have...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Completely agree with R4118 and I only live 90 minutes away from Duxford. Thinking about it over the last few days, the only reason I was at the May airshow in 2019 was some sense of misplaced loyalty and nostalgia for being at a Duxford airshow. I spent most of the time I was there angry, wondering...

Re: Battle of Britain Airshow 2020 - 18th-20th September.

Return of the Tank Bank is most welcome! Is it actually though? If you look at the layout of the site, opening the tank bank presumably means moving the display lines even further away from the rest of the crowd line. And where are they moving the fence to? There no space to move it anywhere betwee...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Pah! Duxford's appeal and world renown as a go-to destination for people from around the world is built upon the efforts of it's resident restorers and operators. Flying Legends was the flagship event for that industry. Without them, it is just another dusty museum of dormant artifacts. Museums have...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Good to hear Nick Grey on the radio, giving a relatively positive outlook on the situation.

With regards to venue, one can only hope TFC have some ideas up their sleeves that haven't occurred to any of us.

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

It seems to me that Flying Legends, as an iconic event that attracts visitors from around the world, contributes rather more to the Duxford brand than *just* direct revenue.

What a shame that no one at IWM has the foresight to recognise this.

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

I was always under the impression that airshow revenue was an essential element of Duxford's budget. Is this no longer the case?

(Understandable of course that Legends might be less valuable to IWM than their own shows)

It must be said, the argument that the site provides for 14 sq.metres per person is pretty weak.

Re: Vintage Air Day Sun 6th Sep

I'm very happy to a) be able to go to airshows in 2020 and b) support the Shuttleworth Collection through what is a difficult time for all such organisations.

No one is being milked. If you think it is not good value for your personal circumstances you can choose not to attend.

Re: Vintage Air Day Sun 6th Sep

It seems likely they are in the process of converting this show to the 'Drive In' format. In which case tickets need to be sold per car, not per person.

I think Melun will go ahead in September. I'm more concerned about whether we'll be able to travel to France and back by then, without quarantine restrictions etc.

This is the worst case scenario for us as it's not (yet) enough for Insurance to kick in. We need the FCO to advise against 'all but essential travel' to New Zealand.

It's not so much picture "quality" it's more about definition. Yesterday is only an SD channel not HD which is basically the difference between DVD and Blu-ray! Yes and no... I don't have a problem with SD per se - a well created DVD can still look great. The problem is (presumably) the l...
