Got to keep you Young ones fit and healthy so the brats can go go back to school so the hoi polloi go back to work so they can earn the taxes to pay my pension which lets me go to the pub to raise the taxes which pays your salary.

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Setting my alarm for 5.30am which will be a total waste of sleep as my local opens at noon. Seriously, a local group of us (all in the village) meet up for a once a month afternoon beer. The next meeting should be on Wednesday so I am going down to suss out if it’s ok to go or if we need to have the...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Take half an hour to listen to Radio 4s More or Less programme (broadcast this morning). The series has been looking at Covid stats for the last 14 weeks and the one today is using hindsight to explain decisions, looking at what has and hasn't worked and compares national reporting. it's a very bala...

Tankbuster - I'm sure you're right in that more spikes will happen. As I mentioned (was it only yesterday?) that the 2nd and 3rd spikes of the 1918-19 pandemic were more deadly than the first. Interesting to note at Wednesday's briefing the question from the Northern Ireland journalist about a spik...

Re: A couple of meatboxes

Many thanks Pete - apparently the a/c was displayed in Paris in November '46. I'm working on a timeline to work out when the photo in the record breaking scheme was taken. I'm told the chap in it finished his basic training at Greenham Common in April '46 and left the RAF in '48.

A couple of meatboxes

A friend of mine asked me to research these pictures for a mate of his. The mate's dad is in the cockpit in the first picture. EE549 was an F.4 used to set an air speed record - I think it was based at Tangmere and a note on the back confirms this. Apparently these a/c went straight from Gloster to ...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

The Welsh and Scottish governments got it right in restricting travel to a defined local distance; a restriction which needs to be brought in in England ASAP. That along with seizing and crushing the cars of those idiots and using the army to patrol roadblocks. As for what happened in Brixton last n...

My point is simple; saying “black lives matter” is not an expression that other lives do not matter - no one (no one serious, anyway) has ever said that they don’t.

Re: Culture Wars

Sorry Tommy but it is the whole point. Any negative discrimination on grounds of race, creed, colour, gender orientation is wrong. It is far, far to simplistic to base one's own views on race on colour. There are many instances around the world currently and through history of black on black, brown ...

Perhaps worth mentioning that museums will be able to re-open from July 4th.
Last night's Lockdown Lecture from the Museum of Army Flying mentioned opening from the 13th - shame it's a bit far for a day trip for me.

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

The information I want to see at the moment is where the thousand or so new daily infections are being picked up. Is it supermarkets by respiration or touch, DIY stores, garden centres, hospitals and so on?

From track and trace there must be some indicators to help people self risk assess.

Even if its a reduced show with a few hours flying I will be there. its a 400+ mile trip for me just to get there. I'm just happy to be able to get away for a weekend.
If it goes to plan I will be on the desk at the Gold membership - drop by and say hello.

Re: Duxford Shows: 2020

Look at it another way. Duxford depends on visitor revenue from all sources to be the attraction it is.
Make an effort to go, put some money into the museum and even if it is "just a few warbirds" it will help the 2021 shows go ahead (and a few of the staff keep their jobs.)
