Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 24-25 July

Any idea why the Red Arrows display with 8 aircraft and not "drop" another one? The formation looks "unbalanced" with 8 and would be more symmetrical with 7. The Red Arrows run a system where their positions are fixed throughout the year so substitution is not a possibility. A number of years ago t...

Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 24-25 July

Blackbird, I wondered about the split in the flightline then realised it was so Classic Wings could get in and out to the "passenger terminal." As to the flying display: To keep the vast majority of the customers happy it has to be varied -which yesterday's was. Too many warbirds and it becomes same...

Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 24-25 July

Talk about hard to please! You start with one of the foremost aviation museums in the world, which has a mega hole in its budget due to covid closures. Add in a flying display which ran from 13.48 through to about 17.20 with no gaps, which included a fast jet, vintage jets, one of the world’s top m...

Make sure you have access to Fighter Control - there are regular updates on what is happening from a couple of posters who cover all the radio stuff.

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

The testing part I can definitely get - yes it has its flaws, but it is designed on its face to be proof that you don’t have COVID. That’s fine. It’s also inexpensive, and doesn’t create two classes of rights for people. It does what a vaccine passport does not - gives you confidence that a) you do...

B-52, B-1 and B-17 at showground centre anyone? Sure I heard something about that being a thing in 2022... hopefully. Add the B-24 and one (or two) B-29s to that. Ha ha, like it. I dared not hope too much for a B-29 for 2022. Maybe something for 2025, being 80th anniversary of the 1st nuclear bomb ...

Something we can agree on; there will be a lot of attempts to shift the blame around ministers and departments to lead into the next leadership contest once the worst of the pandemic has passed.

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

The CDC is the US government health protection agency so it is hardly "selective" Googling and chucking a few links about! "Data from multiple studies in different countries suggest that people vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine who develop COVID-19 have a lower viral load than unvacci...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Tommy asked “why” at that point and my answer is the same - because I know that the people around me are less likely to transmit the virus I’ve mentioned it before but it’s really important that people know that the vaccine does not, on a material nor reliable level, prevent transmission of the vir...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

A passport for leisure activities, once all jabs have been offered, is, in my view, a reasonable societal expectation; months ago I said it would make me feel safer. Tommy asked “why” at that point and my answer is the same - because I know that the people around me are less likely to transmit the v...

Re: RAF Valley, Anglesey - July 2021

I was in Caernarfon last week - great weather! I saw the Red Arrows Hawk on Wednesday over PortMeirion - maybe on the way home, saw the Texans a few times, got 4 F-15s over Llanberis on Friday morning and certainly heard the F-35s (but didn't get to see them)

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

A few thoughts. 1. If we are going to open up, as we all want, now is the right time because of the success of the vaccine programme, the firebreak (hopefully) of the school holidays and the high UV levels at this time of year (that's JVT not me!) 2.it looks like many people and businesses will cont...

access issues

I have not been able to access UKAR all day (stop cheering!) using Chrome but managed this evening on Firefox. Any bright ideas which a non-IT expert would understand? Edit: Is the issue Google? I have tried Chrome on the PC, Safari on the iPad and google on my phone - the phone away from home and g...

That should be YC-14 and -15

And it's '77 - hmmm, I also saw the A-10 which then crashed at Paris. Looks like the 45 years in between have muddled the memories a bit. Have to get the checklists out.

The first Mildenhall I did was on the same day as the Entebbe raid in 1976. I seem to remember the YF-16, and YC-15 and -16. If you work through Fighter Control you can find lots of information and photos. I am not sure when it went from a one day airshow to the two day air Fete. Great shows - espec...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I was half listening to R5 yesterday. The immunologist being interviewed was asked about the app pinging to tell you to isolate. If I heard it right she said it’s only mandatory to isolate if you get a phone call but the app pinging you is only advisory. My sister in law got pinged a couple of days ...
