Something else to consider re airliner tyres.

Apart from the set that came with the aeroplane when it was delivered brand new, most other tyres will be re-treads, albeit remanufactured to the same standard are the originals. The carcasses are re-used... again ... and again.

The aeroplane was used for aerobatic air displays whilst in Italy. I guess these had something to do with it.

This DH82a (G-ASPV) was rebuilt in the early 2000s, but sadly the chap who did the restoration was seriously injured in a car accident. The aircraft then went to Italy for a few years. It was brought back to the UK by AT aviation in an epic 20 hours flying time (and many stops!), arriving at Bransco...

Aha! That's it, the Newbury Air Festival. I knew it wasn't an IAT, but couldn't remember the event... or why I traipsed around in the wet?

Although the starboard undercarriage on the Blenheimhas collapsed, it doesn't look like the engine was running at the time. (Propellor blades aren't bent).

Just for the record then, official "night" is the period from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise So, a landing after sunset may not actually be a night flight. Remember, the horizon is further away at altitude. That said, landing at night on a completely unlit surface...
