Something else to consider re airliner tyres.
Apart from the set that came with the aeroplane when it was delivered brand new, most other tyres will be re-treads, albeit remanufactured to the same standard are the originals. The carcasses are re-used... again ... and again.
Cheers

Heathrow T2 Early 1990s
Had a loft turn out and found a few pictures from my past. Like many, I spent the odd Sunday afternoon on top of Queens Building at Heathrow. Here are a few of the ahem.. "better" pics. Hope they are of interest. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/647/32211651660_53dcfe27fb_b.jpg EGLL by gospor...

Nothing as far as I know. I had many happy hours flying in FO but the time had come to move it on to the next owner.
The chap I sold her to intended to keep the aeroplane at Thruxton and I think it's still there.

Nice pictures.
It was indeed a windy and gusty day, with lots of low level turbulence.

Storm Katie swept through last night. Unfortunately there were a couple of aviation casualties at Popham. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1652/25487229294_bef9bd8b19_b.jpg Untitled by gosport_flyer , on Flickr From another angle. Up on the hill you can see the AN-2 which has also been "bent"...

I believe they are housings for pyrotechnics

The aeroplane was used for aerobatic air displays whilst in Italy. I guess these had something to do with it.

Tiger Moth: Return from Italy
This DH82a (G-ASPV) was rebuilt in the early 2000s, but sadly the chap who did the restoration was seriously injured in a car accident. The aircraft then went to Italy for a few years. It was brought back to the UK by AT aviation in an epic 20 hours flying time (and many stops!), arriving at Bransco...

Greenham in the wet late 1970s early 1980s
Sorry, can't remember exactly when I took these, but I do remember it was at Greenham Common and it was VERY wet. Not the best quality as they've been in a drawer for 30 odd years. I think used an early Practika LTL or some such at the time. I have scanned them to the best of my ability. I hope you ...

Like all these, especially the Comper Swift and the Blenheim pic.
Although the starboard undercarriage on the Blenheimhas collapsed, it doesn't look like the engine was running at the time. (Propellor blades aren't bent).

Sun 'n Fun Splash In 2014
Surprised no-one has posted pics here from this Central Florida event as there seemed to be a fair number of Brits in attendance. (Including several UK ATC cadets who volunteer for this and the main Sun 'n Fun event. Good for them) The Splash In was held at Lake Agnes, next door to the recently clos...

Agreed, it does look rather good, doesn't it. Can't help but wonder what a C-17 would look like in the 1970s MAC scheme (White / Grey), like this C-141A http://webspace.webring.com/people/qb/b31640/c141-2.jpg There's precedent for these sort of "legacy" schemes in the civil world of course.

Seconded, a very nice set of pictures.
The weather was excellent, all I can think is that confusion over the date put some people off
I wonder how many turned up on the Monday?
Cheers

Well, I was there in G-ARFO!
The Hiller UH-12C (last pic) is historic btw, but not as a US Army machine. It was the LAPDs first police helicopter

Re: Latest an aircraft can land? (Unlit runway)
Just for the record then, official "night" is the period from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise So, a landing after sunset may not actually be a night flight. Remember, the horizon is further away at altitude. That said, landing at night on a completely unlit surface...

Nice set of pictures of a really nice day. I wonder if you captured any of Cessna 150A G-ARFO? I ask because I flew in with my wife as passenger, her first visit to a fly in (my wife, not the aeroplane!) Whilst wandering around I took a picture of this pretty thing (the girls quite nice as well... a...

Ref the Harrier "people pod", yes it was built and fitted, but as far as I know, never actually flown with anyone in it (unlike the P-38 pod which was used a lot). Here's a pic.. http://www.flightglobal.com/assets/getasset.aspx?itemid=1699 The Americans had a similar plan, but again, I don...

Re: Best examples of aircraft improvisation?
How about the P-38 Lightning Transport ? From Wiki Standard Lightnings were used as crew and cargo transports in the South Pacific. They were fitted with pods attached to the underwing pylons, replacing drop tanks or bombs, that could carry a single passenger in a lying-down position, or cargo. This...
