Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

With regards Tornado Thrust Buckets and bits, does anyone there have any contacts at RAF Leeming, maybe BAES/RAF has some available from the RTP programme, or may be able to provide a contact that might have some laying around.

Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

I will also add as a long time reader and very infrequent poster that I also tend to come to the Historic Aviation area first to read whatever updates turn up and enjoy the on going work you and others do, and I am sure that there are many others. So keep up the good work it is appreciated you takin...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I think the chances of the current lot giving up their cash cow is fairly remote, still stranger things have happened, and some of us wondered whether or not there was a time in the past when a change of ownership might have been more beneficial to XH558's future once it stopped flying.

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Purple_95, that has historically been the usual method of operation, and historically has worked well for them, so living in hope of another last minute knight in shining armour, and the ardent supporters that XH558 still has to gallop in and save the day is no more than can be expected.

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

If true it will be interesting to see which plot of land will be utilised and how, unless it is going to be used as a gate guardian for the Junction 31 secure parking site, or the Swallownest care home, or possibly the miners Welfare Society, or even Gulliver’s Valley Theme Park.

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Be interesting to see if VTST is going to try and keep their fingers in the pie by getting involved in the bids for some of that redevelopment if Scampton is a viable option for XH558, if they do I hope that they don't expect the public to fund it for them or keep to their ethic of it is our way or ...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

If work is to start in March, I assume, if history is anything to go by, the fund-raising push will ramp up at the beginning of February with the usual - if amount x is not received by date y XH558 will go to the scrap yard, as they should have enough funds to get started before then.

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

The biggest problem as I see it is VTST themselves, yes they have been successful in the past with fundraising, but their methodology has alienated a lot of people who could have made the task easier and probably more sustainable than it has been historically, some of the possible solutions going fo...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

They have succeeded with step 1 in getting 558 and themselves back in the media, hinted at possible solutions to their predicament, if history is to be repeated step 2 will be the chosen solution and fund raising requirements will be published at the last moment to try and cause maximum angst amongs...

Also, perhaps the many other Vulcans that yielded parts and documentation for the RTF phase of the project might also be able to finally get their parts back!
Going from my experience that is not likely, or they will charge the earth for them to maximise income for when they finally fold.

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I suppose that technically the money that has been donated towards the now defunct new hangar should be offered back to those who donated it as it has not been used for the purpose it was donated for. If the people state that it can be used to help 558's future, or for that matter the Canberra (whic...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I think that now the VTTS has achieved the initial requirement of theirs to engage revitalised discussions reference 558 and its new plight/future, it is time to await the next phase which will be fund raising once they have declared where the aircraft will end up and how it is going to get there, w...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Currency? Way back in the 1950s when the first Vulcan flight occured nobody was current on it! Wow, that is great news, I am sure the CAA will appreciate not having to bother about that side of flying old aircraft. As an aside are you aware of what is needed to fly any modern prototype aircraft for...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Looking at that list for a ferry flight while laudable would need a few more checks in place, as has been said many times before, so for a starters: Find a Design Authority to support the aircraft for a ferry flight. Will Rolls Royce support the flight as an OEM for the engines. Will Martin Baker su...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I just used the description from the certificate provided, which calls them plaques, probably to make them sound posh, going to be a bit hard to share the stickers/plaques with all the other people on the same one and after all this time would assume that they might be rather hard to remove. Wonder ...

Fair enough, I have been out of touch for a while and just picked up snippets here and there which obviously don't add up, it will be interesting to see where they go from here and how much financial support will be out there, what is interesting now is who would want/be able to have 558, and would ...

I did not know that they had so much money 'left over' I had the impression that it had been used for the ongoing costs to date trying to keep her in the news/engine running/planning for new accommodation etc, if that is the case then yes it will go a long way to getting her moved. Pity that one of ...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I just hope that the spares they have can now be used to support the other Vulcans where compatible, if they have not already been doing that. I wonder if XM607 still needs an entrance door lock and if it does can they now have one of the spare ones that 558 had, I did try years ago when 607's door ...
