Re: Airshow melancholy.

I to visited Farnborough air show by bus from Portsmouth in 1952 aged 14. Luckily not on John Derry crash day. The bus trip took forever and I went many times on it. The I of W passengers often missed the last ferry back to the island. Great times you should look at the program online . I recall vi...

Airshow melancholy.

With 2020 coming to an end, so will end my 46 consecutive years attending airshows beginning with the Burma Star Association show at Waterbeach in 1974. So guys, I'm thinking there are plenty of you who can go back much further than this. What was your first show and how long a run did you get in be...

Re: Post Lockdown London Bimble~ Saturday 22nd August 2020.

Thats interesting, Brian. I'd hadn't realised London was still so quiet. Maybe a good time to re-visit the IWM, especially with the Cambridge to King's Cross train being nigh on empty.

Re: Social Distance Spotting

There might even be retired people on here... Too right there are - and as an aside, you don't have to be over 65 to retire either  . Andy :grinning: I'll join Andy and Brian in giving early retirement the thumbs up. I finished at the end of Feb, also at 58. Luckily, being close to the Heath...

I spent the weekend doing the same in my garden Ian. Frustration knows no bounds when trying to catch a Bumblebee in flight.

Lakenheath Heritage jets.

A quick question for you guys who are knowledgeable on the 'heath comings and goings. What is the status of the remaining two heritage Eagles? Are they still regular flyers? Lakenheath Facebook page gave the impression that Blue Fin (I'll call them Blue and Red Fin for simplicity) was active last we...

Re: RIAT 2019

A NASA WB-57 would be a nice coup, and not outside the realms of possibility. As a complete shot in the dark I was thinking last night.... A flypast of a NASA WB-57 (or insert any other of the NASA fleet of aircraft) with the Reds? Yes I know I can dream! That's what crossed my mind when I posted. ...

Re: RIAT 2019

I'll throw this into the mix guys. The Sunday will be the 50th anniversary of man first setting foot on the moon. Maybe something with the Red Arrows flying Apollo formation and something from the states. Participants from NASA unlikely? So what do you think, is detective Sid on to something?

Re: RIAT 2019

I believe The Vikings are the fast pass kings from the very first IAT in1985. Axel Ostermann has recounted the incident in a few publications, the underpass manoeuvre involved Viking 1 flying a slow pass while the second F-104 passed underneath at high speed and 300 feet. On this occasion, Viking 2 ...

Re: Red Bull Air Race series to end

Thats a shame. I do enjoy it but I'm not that surprised as the calendar seems to get shorter each year. I think the first round this year was in February, nothing since, and it appears it will now be a four race season.

Do they still take part at airshow in the local area? I'm not sure on this but I think Titusville and Daytona beach have been venues, even after they took on the present work contract.

Not in the UK but over in the Netherlands, I believe there is a Dutch F-104 return to flight project underway. Hopefully something to look forward to for the future.

Re: Bye Bye Scampton?

Had a chat with a Reds ground crew member last week at Fairford. She told me they were relocating to Wittering. T1 Hawk will be with the team until 2030. They are off to the States next year for a 3 month tour, 2020 a tour of Asia, so hopefully the Reds are safe for a good while yet. But of course, ...

Is the P-47 permanently based at Duxford now? I was thinking of popping in tomorrow afternoon to catch it, would be a bonus if the Spit was up again too.

After a test fight in early June,if all is good, it will head to Sola for a few days, arriving the 4th or 5th of June, performing at Sola 9th June and then on to Aalborg that afternoon. Re: RAF100

Apparently, the original plan was for Tornados to form the 1 and Typhoons the zero's but as we now know this will be all Typhoons for the 100. One element of the flypast will consist of 7 Tornados forming an arrowhead with a diamond 4 of F-35 in the V behind. I assume this formation will all be from...

Re: 4-ship Heading North

Spotted the 4 and 3 group from Downham Market. A few minutes after the 3 passed overhead, a pair followed at about the same height and heading but couldn't get the binos on them this time. Any idea on if this pair may have been F-18s Gary or was 7 the total for Lossiemouth?

Wondered if anyone has visited Hangar 7 at Salzburg Airport. Looks good on Red Bull's web page. Having agreed to do the Sound of Music tour may have c...

Re: Hill Aerospace Museum

It's a fine collection John. I visited in 2008 while taking a day off from skiing at Park City. The B29 looks good now, back then was a touch second hand (think it was call Hegartys hag at the time). Nice to see the F-104 as it was in bits outside on my visit.
