Re: RIAT 2020

If the reasons given for the grass length at FFD are true, why I wonder, do the Navy keep the grass so neatly cropped at Yeovilton?

Re: RIAT 2019

I did P&V East on the Wednesday but want to have the "full experience". So, do you know where the reduced tickets are being advertised? As far as I'm aware, the £5 discount offer is only being made by email, to those who bought Friday tickets for this year; hence you won't see it adve...

Totterdown is the unofficial farm campsite and park&view, situated on the hill to the north of the airfield - http://www.totterdownhillcampsite.co.uk/

Re: RIAT 2019

This doesn't make sense either - people paying at the gate will arrive early to get in whilst advance ticket holders will still be arriving well after. How do you predict numbers on that basis. hmm ... on second thoughts, I guess you may be right ... but then they know how many advance tickets they...

The bit I never understand, have a sellout than allow a bun fight on the day, 2000 vultures and one small carcass. On the face of it, the policy appears to make no sense .... until, that is, you take into account the fact that the east-west split cannot be accurately predicted and as tickets can be...

I'm guessing ticket sales for the Friday must be slow, going by RIAT's latest post on their FB page: Have you thought about visiting the Air Tattoo on the Friday? We've listed our top 5 reasons why you need to visit the show on Friday here: https://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/visiting/air-tattoo-blog/...

Re: Design Your Own Flying Display

I'd choose Dunkeswell as my venue. It's got a half decent solid runway and is in a fairly quiet area. I would love to see a line-up like that at Dunkeswell (it's only 20 minutes away from me ) .... IIRC, the last time an airshow was held there would have been around 2005 (ish) - it was chilly and h...

Re: IMPORTANT - Future of UKAR

I think that the options of (i) a cull of inactive members and (ii) seeking sponsorship, should be mutually exclusive, as any potential sponsor is more likely to get on board a going concern with a large membership, where they can see the possibility of significant advertising exposure. On the other...

Re: Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens (Canon)

I'll second the recommendation for the Sigma 100-400 - I bought one last year and have been very impressed with the performance. Some professional reviews rate it on a par with the fabled Canon 100-400 for sharpness (one very comprehensive comparison test reckoned that it is a tad sharper than the C...

If we already have a ticket for Wednesday, I'm assuming we won't be turned away? In principle, correct, however I asssume that the total number of tickets is for both East and West P&V's, whereas each must have their own maximum capacity figure; so I wonder what happens if the majority of ticke...

The notice has just been posted on the official @airtattoo twitter feed, with the dates amended to run from 9th to 17th July.

With the 9th being the first Monday, are we to assume that they are expecting some early arrivals?

Fair point, in which case, it may be worth considering hiring a decent lens for those aviation occasions.

Re: Cossina. 100-400 mm f4.5-f6.7

Would the Cossina one give me much improvement on my present zoom lens. I would expect the reverse - a budget grade third-party lens is likely to produce noticably lower IQ than a genuine Canon lens. The only improvement you'd get would be a slightly longer reach - at the expense of poorer quality.

Okay, maybe I didn't make my point very clear, I'm not complaining that it's a three day event, a day out with fast jets beats most other days, but I don't see what so different this year that they had to have three full show days. I'd understand if there were too many displays to fit everything in...

300mm +1.4 teleconvertor = 630mm approx. on a D300 taking into account the crop factor With my pedantic head on I feel I should point out that 300mm +1.4x TC = 420mm and the focal length will always be 420mm regardless of sensor size. A more meaningful comparison would be to say that a 'full-frame'...

Like I said, it’s my first year so I can’t go into detail about things I don’t know much about, hence me asking people about it. I suspect this will be only be the 2nd year (2002 being the other one) when there'll be no Phantoms present. Wouldn’t lose hope just yet, there’s still time for the Hellenic Air Force to confirm theirs, even if it is very unlikely considering We’ve already had a confirmation from Greece. Same could...
