Re: Farnborough International 88 TV programme

Thank you. It's a long time since I have seen this programme. It is the series of BBC programmes from that week which I credit with sparking my first interest in aviation. On the basis of this programme series (I think there were three that week,) I attended Farnborough 88. It was my first airshow. ...

Re: BBC Planespotting live....

My problem with the show rests purely with Andi Peters. Not every presenter needs to be an expert, but the one who presents himself as the enthusiast should at least have some knowledge of the subject. People making mistakes is part of the learning journey we are all on.

Re: Aviation books?

Just finished The Smell of Kerosene: A Test Pilot's Odyssey and really enjoyed it. Good value from Amazon if you have a Kindle device. Apache by Ed Macy was a good read and so was Testing Tornado by David Eagles. Harrier over the Falklands is good if you can overlook the ego and the way Ward dismiss...

Re: How did you get into Planes?

In 1988, I was 25 and my boss at the time said I had to take a week off work. I was scratching around trying to find things to do at the last minute and on the news came a report that an Antonov 124 had suffered an engine surge on take off at Farnborough. I went to see it (several hours travel and t...

Re: IMPORTANT - Future of UKAR

Really sorry to hear about your health problems Paul and I wish you well. Before I found this site, the only places I had for airshow information were the Usenet Newsgroups - although they were academic, they were not a place to loiter as they already had a bad reputation at University. It may inter...

Seem to remember that bank was a little too sharp and required a very hasty correction. The wing tip was very close to the runway

Everyone in the Green car park returned to the last bus stop before the car park at the same time resulting in the longest single queue of people I have ever witnessed ! Just got back to my internet connection. The police blocked off access to the buses whilst Prince William, Kate and Prince George...

Re: Bike ride protest at Fairford airshow

This guy has effectively done here what he tried to do at Fairford and invaded our domain in the hopes of an audience. He has probably got more people to listen to him here than he ever would have at Fairford. As we can see from the arguments back and forth, he will not be interested in anything you...

Re: Waddington 2011... Thoughts and comments

Today was my first time at Waddington. It's strange to see all of the comments about delays getting in. I came over from Lancashire and got the A1 from the M62 and followed the signs, then turned around and followed them again after I had missed one. I came in on the A607 at about 07:35 and was park...

Superb competition - well done guys. Incidentally, I found an old bookmark for the website among my university favourites from 1997. I started to view as it was one of the best places to hear about Farnborough and RIAT and I liked the old photo competition which was around then. Took me 10 years of ...

Bring it on and can we have a pass with all 3 in formation please ) Why? Purely my own personal preferences. It's like the thread about the Thunderbirds (not that I wish to open it again) but if someone wants to put F16s in the air for me to look at, I couldn't be more pleased. I am not right or wr...

Re: What would celebrate 40 years of R/IAT well?

As RIAT seems to like it's celebratory flypasts, how difficult would it be to have some kind of a formation of formation display teams in as happened at Air 04? We could also have loose formation flypasts of dissimilar types including some of the UK and US types (including the big stuff) which have ...

Re: RIAT 2011

I kind of like the OTT commentary priovided by the US teams, including the Raptor this year. It is just more showman like. The only problem I have with them is that they often go on for a few minutes too long before the take off roll starts. I even liked the intro for the Hawk T1 this year for the s...

Re: RIAT Photobus Feedback Please

It was a really good idea but I would like to see it running from the green gate as well. It is difficult to get to the red gate quickly and there were few pointers to the bus stop when on the airfield. By the time I found it, it was time to make my way to my seat for the start of the show.

Re: RIAT 2010 Feedback

I must be in a minority as I thoroughly enjoyed the show. My opinion: The Harrier did what a Harrier does and did it very well. The display is shorter than it used to be from 20R but I don't think that is a bad thing. WeFly and Pitts were not on long enough to be boring and produced very well flown ...
