Re: Wanted from BoB show

I know I e-mailed about this yesterday, but I forgot to ask what size images you're looking for - 1024x or the originals? If you want anything printed/blown up, please let me know and I'll take care of it.

Nice pics.

There's been some heavy snowfall in Essex this past few weeks, if you catch my drift. We've been huddling extra close in the parachute hangar.

Re: what did you think Battle of Britain 2010

UK show of the year. Certainly up there. As for "moment of the season", the Spitfire tailchase wins hands down, even against something like the Raptor. I'd go as far as to say it was the best multiple-warbird set piece I've seen...ever. Utterly brilliant in every respect and a superb show...

Re: Viewing from field

I looked into booking a private Spitfire display for a birthday last year and was quoted £1,200 without VAT, but the proposed venue was only a few minutes' flying time away so naturally less fuel was required. Booking a warbird from further away (say, flying from Duxford to somewhere in East Kent), ...

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2010

I'm certain the UK has seen the largest post-war gatherings (all of which have been at Duxford) - not sure how many are airworthy in the USA, but I don't think they roll into double figures. The Hangar 11 Collection's Steve Atkin ('MarkV' on here) maintains a log of the world's airworthy Hurricane p...

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2010

I believe - and I have this on video somewhere which I might re-watch before the weekend - there were 20 Spitfires and 3 Hurricanes in 2000; certainly, that was the case in the flying display. The finale saw an 18-ship formation of the 15 privately owned Spitfires and the Hurricanes in two sections ...

T'riffic set, "Hue". Glad you got the final pass from the 'stangs - quite a shot that is, too!

The Extra 330 reflective cockpit shot looks awfully familiar.

They wouldn't have added it at this stage in the game if it wasn't likely to be ready/airworthy, would they..?

Absolutely, Shoreham's always one of my favourites, but I can't deny feeling a tad envious, looking at all the excellent photo threads!

Here's to 2012!

Edit - out of curiosity, can I ask who the Hind & Nimrod pilots were?

Super sets, looks like an utterly brilliant show; plenty of lovely aircraft you can't really see elsewhere. Wish I'd made the trek from Shoreham, truth be told.

Really like the 'Jumpin' Jacques' departure shot and the atmospheric Hurricane take-off with the smokey background; nicely done.

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2010

Aye, the SF-260s were already on there. Looking good, though it'd be nice to see some 1930s biplanes - Demon, Hind, Nimrod, Gladiator etc - but I appreciate that Old Warden's Pageant is held on the Sunday and there are budgets to consider etc. Still a strong line-up. Far as I know, it'll be the Typh...

Re: Shoreham Airshow 2010

I think it was 08:00 last year, I got there at 08:30 and the fence was almost full. I managed okay at 9am last year by nabbing the last space on the far right. I understand there are more enclosures this year (can't remember who told me? Sure it was someone on here!) so even less crowd space... Get...

Re: Flight Line Walk

Cost will probably be £4 and it should be open between 9am and 12pm (press get booted off, or abandoned by their guides, at 12). You don't need to pre-book, just turn up on the day! They allow you reasonably close to the aircraft, but it isn't a patch on the free access you get at places like Old Wa...

Re: Shoreham Airshow 2010

On a nice evening, it's lovely to just sit outside the terminal bar and gaze over the airfield or, on Sunday, watch many of the aircraft depart. I always stay as late as possible at Shoreham, such is the ambiance of the place. There may even be a party at the flying club again - last year, it was ad...

It was mentioned on the Shoreham Airshow Facebook page that they hope to have the Duxford-based warbirds on site by Friday evening (before a radio feature promoting the event) - which will include HAC's Hurricane XII, Buchon, HAC's Spitfire V and Spitfire Ltd/Historic Flying Ltd's Spitfires IX, IXT ...

Re: Close your eyes and be there again!

Good find! Reminds me of a CD I once owned which featured numerous aircraft and airshow recordings, the best of which was a full 12-minute recording of Flying Legends 1996's P-51D tailchase. You have the sound of nine P-51Ds tailchasing, three B-25s flying low overhead at intervals, the sounds of va...

I had a look at getting advance tickets the other day and I'm pretty sure they weren't any cheaper, so maybe it's no big loss on that front? Also looked around on the net and, as in previous years, the Sabre and B-17 will be displaying according to their own websites. Duxford News (or a similar pub...
