Re: 2008 Queens flypast

Incredible. I saw it the first time last year and it was a very pale shadow of that. Incredible just how much things have changed in a decade.

Re: RIAT 2019

Perhaps punters are more savvy than RIAT think re the Friday pricing and they are having to back peddle? i think they are doing just that. the question still remains, why would anyone pay near full price for a ticket for half a show day? It's not even "near" full price-the tickets cost ex...

I did wonder. Too late for me anyway hotel is booked and for the first time in many years I won't be doing Friday. A shame but hopefully the message will be received.

Re: Tornado F.3 pair

No it was black originally. I don't know if it flew with a black radome but it was certainly rolled out as such. It looks better than the grey anyway https://www.airliners.net/photo/UK-Air-Force/Panavia-Tornado-F3/1100821/L I'm pretty sure it did fly with the black redone but maybe only once. The a...

Lovely job mate! I'm working on the GR4 at present and finding the same. Some fit issues I haven't really conquered but it's building into a smart Tornado. Anything like those two I'd be very happy with!

Re: RIAT 2019

Well I've booked for next year as had a bit of a bonus from work so seemed a good use of it. A bit upset at having missed the Super Earlybird for Saturday already. I couldn't afford them before so it can't be helped but it does seem the number of tickets at the discount rate has been cut. Also this ...

Re: Single or twin seat?

Some aircraft do, some don't. I like the look of twin-seat F-15s and F-18s but hate the look of twin seat F-16s. I think single-seat Hunters are better looking than bulbous twin-seaters, yet quite like the look of a similarly bulbous two-seat Lightning. Although I didn't dislike them, I think a sin...

Re: Best Corgi Aircraft Model?

I've got a collection of around 300 models, mostly Corgi military and British or German but with a decent sized collection of 1:200 scale airliners which really are beautiful models. As for favourites it's almost impossible to pin down. I love my Swordfish and the 1:48 Lightning is a spectacular loo...

Re: Single or twin seat?

I think I am right in saying that the Su-27 Flanker is the only aircraft that did not need to be 'stretched' to make a two-seater. The single-seat Su-27 Flanker-B is exactly the same length as the two-seat Su-27UB Flanker-C - the only difference is the upper fuselage contours and taller fins. It is...

Re: RAF Voyager?

Maximum of two jets at a time can be refuelled. Even on the three pointers. They use either the centre point for large types or the two wing pods. Interestingly the Voyager cannot be refuelled, they don't have probes and as an Airbus type they don't have the boom recepticle. I presume a probe could ...

Re: 2018 Security

I dont think anyone has mentioned 100% secure as a target. I think we all know that it cant be acheived. But (not just this year) there are always examples quoted of where security could easily be better, wasted resoures or procedures more consistanly applied. That's the point I'm making though. Fo...

Re: 2018 Security

All of this comment ignores the fact that 100% secure is impossible at any time, let alone at an event on this scale. The best organisers can realistically do is hopefully persuade would be attackers that it's too difficult to be worthwhile. Having hundreds of armed police and military is the bigges...

Re: Was it worth it?

Regardless of the arguments over military necessity and lives saved etc surely this ignores a glaring problem in the Typhoon's armoury, mainly that today I still don't think they're using Brimstone? A one size fits all policy is not good, especially if you have to engage near friendly forces. Typhoo...
