KA27 on a Neustrashimy Class Frigate
It seems unthinkable now but back in 2003 a Russian Navy Frigate moored up in London. It coincided with a state visit by Vladimir Putin. I went to take a few pictures and was astounded to be invited on board for a tour. On the flight deck was a KA27 helicopter. I asked if I could take pictures in th...

Wattisham Oldies Part 4 - End of Days
It was a sad Saturday Morning when the last 2 Phantoms departed Wattisham. They blasted into the air followed by a Hawk chase plane. The hawk reefed into a turn immediately after lift off nearly digging its wing tip in the ground. The 2 Phantoms did a few passes of the field before flying off to Con...

Wattisham Oldies Part 1
I started cycling up to Wattisham in the late 70's. Alas I did not have a decent camera at the time. By the time I had a camera it was the late 80's/early 90s. Original photos taken on an Olympus OM10. Flying shots were never great due to the awful Hanimex 200 zoom lends and even worse 2x teleconver...

Slick Eagles and Valkeries.
A couple of days at Lakenheath. They are trialling a new air to air fit for the F15E known as the "Slick Eagle". They have removed the conformal fuel tanks to make them less draggy and lighter to fill the air to air gap now the C models have gone. I did not know that the AMRAAM recesses on...

Coningsby back in March
Back in March I spent a day at Coningsby hoping to get some armed Typhoons on their way to patrol over Poland. It did not pan out but I got a few reasonable shots. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52051552262_ba291b9686_o.jpg a268A1953 by timothyholden , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65...

Bombed up F16's at Lakenheath
Slightly delayed post from a couple of weeks ago. Slightly surprised to see F16's with rocket pods and what looked like dumb bombs. The dumb bombs look like they have a JDAM tail unit on them?? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51992799018_6d74e5e4f3_h.jpg a268A1492 by timothyholden , on Flickr ht...

Back when we were all friends :(
With the cold war firmly back on I got nostalgic for the days when we were all friends. I went back through my old photo albums and digitised a few Russians & Ukrainians from days gone by. Sadly most of these types are now fighting each other. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51921190657_c0c5...

Hoped to get a get a few of the new birds in-between the showers today but the only 2 on the line were towed back to the hanger. Maybe next time. Oh My! Got to love the 225. Never managed to catch it. Would have loved to see it parked with the 747 to get a sense of scale. Nice shots.

Hi All A bit of a surprise at Wattisham on Thursday. 4 Regiment were conducting exercise Aquilas Strike at Stanta. Re: 12 SQN & friends.
Mighty Tonka indeed! I remember going to the Buccaneer stand down and there was a fair bit of anti Tornado sentiment! 12 sqn were considered to be going backwards from real aeroplanes to having a toy machine. Exactly the same sentiment at the Tornado stand down at Marham. :) A lot of Lightning bash...

12 SQN & friends.
Popped along to Coningsby this week to get some shots of the 12 SQN jets. Last time I photographed 12 SQN they were flying the mighty Tonka. Marham 16/07/2020 – Grey but busy
Spent a day at Marham. The weather was grey but for Marham it was quite busy. Nice variation in approaches and take offs, some conventional and some VSTOL. They do like to play on the 01 VSTOL strip and nearby hover pads which is frustrating for photography. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50123...

The AN 148 makes me wish we had gone ahead with the twin engined BAe146 and kept building them in this country. it was another great British missed opportunity.

Re: Mildenhall & Wattisham 16/06/20
Nice set. For someone that's never been to Wattisham, whereabouts in crashgate 2? Are ladders required? Fence is tall! Historically security is not keen on ladders. They have been a tad more relaxed though. The razor wire on top of the fence is dense, 2 rolls side by side and difficult to shoot thr...
