Great catch. Outriggers doing their job!
x2 on the catch. Didn’t risk my camera but was watching from what looked like the same spot of the eastern threshold. Held my breath for a moment but when he recovered it, was hoping someone had got the shot.

Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread

Aircraft aside, my only real negative comment regarding everything else would be the lack of water filling points, although that might have just been me missing them! I only saw one and that was in the viewing village (I'm sure there were two there last year) but it was tucked away in the corner be...

Re: Duxford Diary 2023

where else can you see 7 airworthy Hurricanes plus the only flying Hawker Fury under one roof...? Definitely agree with that I just think the exhibition element could have seen better curation, for example keep the Nimrod in place and position it with the Sea Hurricane? It's not so much the space i...

Re: Duxford Diary 2023

Intrigued now as to how it has all been re-arranged, the Sea Hurricane looks to have gone where the Fury was. Mind you cant help thinking the whole layout is/was a missed opportunity. Granted they had not got the same technical scope of the Spitfire marks from last year but it just seemed very ad-ho...

It's been something of an Annus Horribulus for the team. Aircrew scandals, ageing jets, birdstrikes, fewer jets displaying, and an underwhelming, stale display. If the Reds to are to have a future, they need to take a good look at themselves and reset in all aspects for 2023. Well you and I have ve...

Thunder over Dover '22, Dover AFB, Delaware 21-22 May

In the US on business which included a free weekend that coincided with the return of Dover AFB's airshow, Thunder over Dover. Totally free and well organised event, 75000 visitors over the two days. Temps hit 95 degrees on the Saturday which meant human silhouettes for the static as everyone sought...

Re: Some more of Grandad's models!

Happened to be in the US recently and was able to attend the Thunder over Dover airshow at Dover AFB in Delaware where I saw the following, a modern T1 Jayhawk, in WW2 colours and markings. First thing I thought of was Grandad and his models, not so WHIF after all :grinning: . https://live.staticfli...

Re: Some more of Grandad's models!

Not just WHIF on the markings. Never seen a DH Beaver with wheel spats and Grandad has also changed the engine as well as the cowling looks like it might house a Bristol Mercury or something similar with those cylinder head bulges. Love to see a side view of the A5 from the first set as I’d like to ...

That is excellent Derek, a real rarity as well by the look of the box or is that loft longevity at work? I keep toying with the idea of WWI options but my fear of biplanes and rigging is strong, perhaps if you make your current builds theme a WW1 option I might be tempted to join in. Again, great bu...

Re: Boris Force One?

The cost may well be quoted to be £900,000, however ALL aircraft must undergo a full repaint every X number of years. (Figure varies, generally every 5 to 10 years). So this one is probably due a respray anyway. The figure we really need is how much extra this is going to cost, compared to painting...

Another lockdown return to aircraft modelling & request for help

Like a lot of you, lockdown has got me back into aircraft modelling. The stash has a decidedly Canadian look and the first two builds are shown here, the HobbyCraft 1/72 kits of two Avro Canada products, the CF105 Arrow and the CF100 Canuck. Neither are particularly good kits (a glaring flaw can be ...

Massed helicopter approach at Middle Wallop shows, especially the ones where they all climbed into view together from the low lying land on the other side of the airfield. Forget the exact numbers but believe it was around fifty or sixty. 'Ride of the Valkyries' or 'Crockett's Theme' on the PA.... M...

Re: Social Distance Spotting

I know many decent, talented people who can't tell the difference between a Hurricane and a Spitfire.... Not that I'm calling myself talented (or decent) but I once did a Air Britain aircraft recognition test at RAFM Hendon and managed to get a Mosquito with external fuel tanks confused with a Lanc...

If you speak with authority, please state what that authority is. "We" is insufficient if the reader does not know who "we" are. The staff have already made this point to everyone. I really don't know why they won't enforce it. Get over yourself, you have been on this forum long...

Well that was an interesting couple of hours last night, trying and failing to get the answer. I got as far as googling US wartime training aircraft but kudos to Mike for getting it. A nice little way of showing support. Especially for £2.50!
Agreed but if you can I would suggest paying more, loss of airshow revenue will hit Shuttleworth hard.

Headline-grabbing nonsense, if there is an 'urgent need' then hire a plane and a pilot to get it done easier and faster. If it is just a continuation of planned R&D then there is no need to announce it as if it will make a real difference to the current emergency.
