Re: Which Airshow act makes you yawn and look for a Loo?

Dont know about a loo break to order, but in the old days pre-internet,If I went by coach first thing I did was to buy a flying programme and sort out what items I wasn't too fussed about missing, mainly for a chance to look around the static or stalls...because the coach often arrived pretty near the...

Re: Why are we in a minority?

I used a smoking room/smoking area in a Royal Mail centre for 12 yrs and didnt find too many to have a chat about aircraft, but I can confirm the one man who cleared the place in seconds was Colin the fisherman!

Re: Woodford Airfield is definately going to be redeveloped

Its a bit sad but necessary to develope airfields ,especially the way the population is leaping this past decade,I almost moved to an estate built on part of Grove airfield (Oxon)early 80s,I believe they are developing it more right now,'affordable housing' strikes fear in many folks hearts, but the ...

I still buy magazines,I just buy them on a whim...no ordering, they include 'Flypast','Aeroplane monthly',Britain at war','Car mechanics',and specials like 'Luftwaffe Eagles'.....in the 70s I bought at least 3 aviation mags a month!... I remember buying the first 'Flypast' mag in 1981,poor paper qual...

Re: Trophies

I always thought the evaluation for winning prizes was on the Saturday and maybe it makes a difference to the watchers what day the aircraft were seen, weather conditions etc. a good family friend was at RIAT on the Sunday and he said the RAF Typhoon was top notch on that particular day...personally...

I wouldnt have minded being at the public days,it takes a lot to please everyone ... but I'll say this...my one and only Farnborough visit was a coach outing in 2006.... there was negative stuff about Farnborough on UKAR even then,I knew there were restrictions on height and didnt expect any Zoom cl...

I wasnt at the show itself but watched a good bit on live streaming, thought there was some decent aircraft entertainment to be honest....
Superbug did a cracking display today...looked on a par with Ric Travens performance which I saw at Farnborough 2006 (only my opinion of course  )

I dont know about 'Viffing',but in a newspaper article on the newly refurbished Londons Imperial war museum, the Harrier was mentioned as thus.... 'in the 1982 Falklands war, these revolutionary planes were called 'black death' by the Argentine pilots, the very few Harriers shot down 25 enemy aircraft ...

I thought exactly the same,I doubt the accuracy unless they dont include the 'non payers' but if they are truly happy with the figures thats fine
as a lot of us remember they never had ticket only shows in the old days ,I never saw a thin crowd, and as far as I know no one was ever locked out!

There are decent quality youtubes going up to view so we mortals can judge for ourselves, the RAF Typhoon was a decent..naye, terrific display in less favourable skies,I cant say it was better or worse than the Italian display myself, but you cannot have a carbon copy of a display with identical aircr...

Re: Red Arrows - would you genuinely miss them if disbanded?

Yes! I dont do much in the way of airshows nowadays, but there was a time through the 70s,80s,90s when I saw them so many times(or so it seemed) I actually didnt worry too much whether they were there or not (mind you I felt the same way about ALL the teams...and quite a few aircraft types)as long as...

Re: Thoughts on RIAT 2014

I intended to go today (Sunday) I was disappointed about the F35s not appearing, but decided against going mainly because of the weather forecast, simple as that.....(for all I know it might have turned out OK,but for me the weather is half the airshow!) I have to admit for me the airshow, any airshow...
