Didn't enter service with the RAF until 1975....unless there were any Swedish ones at the IAT prior to that.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
hi, regarding the Black Eagles, whats the chance of the support a/c (C.130's x3?) hanging around in the static, that would be great... Just my own thoughts on this but think 1 might be a distinct possibility, regarding the other two it's likely to depend on where the team will be doing their workup ...

Re: Forum dying?
The quantity of toilets should be based on the the number of bums on seats. Based on ticket sales RIAT can run-out the numbers, without dumping the big P (profit)? It's easy to become irritable at the queues but when one door slams, another one opens! RIAT pride themselves in the "6 P's" ...

Re: Antonov aircraft - filling the void?
How many C-5s are parked up at D-M? I'm sure there must be a business case for them to be restored to active service, even on the civil register. Apart from 1 "M" model all of the C5's at AMARC are "A" models (the oldest ones ) so over 45 years old and a number have already been...

Re: BAC One-Eleven
Just checked my flight log and my first ever flight was in a BAC 1-11 as well. April 1974 in G-AYOR a Court Line series 518FG model in a yellow/orange scheme on a school trip to Spain. Most notable (apart from finding the "meal" located inside the seat on the fold down table) for the fligh...

First one for me was the Hawker Siddeley family day at Dunsfold in 1969...I was 9 years old at the time..An uncle who worked at the Kingston HS factory took myself and my brother down there for a day out.I don't remember a huge amount about it apart from a Harrier GR1 flying but the bug bit seeing t...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
An "aviation park" is shown in the plans for Dunsfold on the runway line which is meant to honour the site's aviation past...however a 747 would be stretching that idea to say the least !

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Looking at the OS map there are less than 2 sq km between the runway and the former canal (which is slowly being restored) so not a lot of room There's not a lot of viable land North of the airfield either because of a fairly large farm (on a hill) so I imagine the whole site will be flattened As p...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Unless it's been shelved there is a proposal to turn all of Dunsfold into a new village (whatever a village constitutes in terms of 1000s of houses) complete with a canal basin so it won't be a permanent home but thanks for the heads-up I'll try to see it! Was looking at the plans earlier. for Duns...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
There is still one complete Conway powered 707 airframe still in existence in Europe with ex EL Al series 458 aircraft 4X-ATB painted in fading period Lufthansa scheme as "D-ABOC" tucked away in a remote corner of the soon to close Berlin Tegel Airport. There is (or was recently) one in H...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Tend to agree but I doubt the only reason G-CIVB was chosen was its livery. They have a Concorde in Chatham livery although not that accessible at the moment. There are BEA / BOAC / Landor liveries at Duxford IIRC There is one historically accurate Negus aircraft already in preservation, and an ina...

It's a combi so there's some useful cargo space on the rear main deck (you can see the main deck cargo door in the picture just behind the wing).3 have been kept in service for this purpose.

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
I had a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) flight from Washington to LHR in October 1988 in G-BDXH ( a -200). I was unfortunately on a full aircraft in an inner seat in the centre section of economy. To my left side was a hyperactive child who for the first couple of hours was in full on hyper act...
