Re: The Scottish International Airshow (Ayr seafront) 2017

I heard from one of the volunteers that the beach assault exercise was canned because South Ayrshire Council didn't okay it, Not true, it was all planned until a week or so ago - why else would the organisers have arranged for £10k worth of pyro? and had actually pulled out of public liability insu...

Sounds like we are going to get a Mig-15 beach "shoot up" & a P-51 "intercept" scenario instead - can't let the pyro go to waste ... :P

with the scheduled breaks being the only times where there wasn't an aircraft in the sky. It is unfortunate however that these breaks happen, the S92 and lifeboat demo was superb but because it 2 hours earlier than the airshow proper I wonder how many missed out on seeing it. Re: Prestwick/Ayr airshow.

Like last year the security bods didn't seem to account for the tide coming in, so the crowd line seemed to get further away. This was put 'right' in the twin Vampire display though. The southernmost buoy drifted out, later displays were told to ignore it & work on the line from centre & no...

on my a6300 CSC and as the camera uses the same auto focus system as the A77II, auto focus is very, very fast and no hunting. the focus systems on the A6300 & A77 II are very different. The A77 II uses a separate phase detect af module with 79 points (15 cross), the A6300 uses a hybrid system c...

Try the TSR-2. I'm on a Facebook page dedicated to the TSR-2, and at times it seems to be an endless pity party over there. The 'most advanced, faultless and brilliant aircraft ever devised, killed off by effete, meddlesome civil servants and our desire to be the Americans' lapdog' narrative gets o...

Re: lens for sony a200

I have an A200, an A700, an A580, an A77 & an A77 II so am very familiar with Sony bodies & what they can & can't do. Believe me that there is a world of difference between the AF performance of an A200 or A700 & an A77 II. ISO difference isn't so dramatic but imo it's at least a sto...

were can I get a lens for sony a200 higher than 300mm how much longer than 300mm, prime or zoom & how much do you want to spend? Sony 70-400 G SSM (either first or second version) are great "do it all" zooms but possibly more than you want to spend, even second hand. Tamron SP 150-600...

Re: Patent out for a new 1000mm f/5.6 lens.

Sony is more expensive because they don't enjoy the same sales volume & therefore economies of scale as Canon & Nikon do. Mind you high performance new designs from anybody with R&D done at current prices are not going to be cheap. It's also possible that with a smaller market to aim for...

Re: Pentax FF D-SLR at last

One thing the Pentax has that Sony users are shouting out for is Pixel Shift Resolution. are they (e.g. I am not)? A small % maybe but certainly not the majority. I see in the specs for the K-1 that you can use an APS-C lens on it & it'll automatically adjust itself to suit ( albeit it'll only ...

Re: sony a200 lens converter help

tbh not going to be much use on that lens/body combo - with a 2x you will lose image quality & probably AF (esp. at long end). A 1.4x won't be quite so bad.

If you must try at least this will save you some money http://www.ffordes.com/product/15123012361331

Re: sony a200 lens help

what is your budget? The Sigma 70-300s were quite well known for stripping their AF ring gears on Sony bodies. The APO version is noticeably better optically but still suffered from the same issue. The level above the Tamron 70-300 LD & the Sigma 70-300 would be the Tamron SP 70-300 USD & th...

Re: sony a200 help

There is no 1 magic setting. It depends upon the light, the lens in use, whether prop or jet, whether the aircraft is moving (& at what speed).
Tell us some of those & we can narrow it down a bit.
The A200 has an old CCD sensor so images get quite noisy , quite fast as you increase the ISO.

Re: Minimum Zoom Required?

I agree, 300mm minimum but 400 is better as long as you don't give up AF or optical performance to get it. Then it depends what your budget is & whether you would consider buying second hand. The 2 obvious step up lenses for a Sony at a reasonable cost imo are the Sony DT 55-300 (~£200 after cur...
