Morayvia night shoot 11 Nov

A big shout out to Jim Simpson for organising two night photography sessions at Morayvia, Kinloss. Listening to feedback, the first one was for advanced and the second for beginners with a team of experienced photographers (and me) to give assistance when needed. The key words with any night photogr...

Scone - a fireball in the circuit

...well not in the circuit but certainly in the overhead, the very overhead. I was out on Monday night taking some photos of the aircraft in the circuit, pacing about as I always do to avoid getting my shadow in the foreground totally oblivious as to what was happening in the sky until I got the pic...

Morayvia - Kinloss Night shoot 2022

Many thanks to Jim and the rest of the Moravyvia volunteers who made last night possible. Mainly the aircraft were lit in sequence, I done this last year so I had the flexibility to be a bit more creative with lighting, mainly light painting but I managed to try out something totally new for me. Her...

Re: Colour correction

There is a lot of blue added to the picture, this could be from the white balance or it could come from the picture style/recipe that's in-built into your camera. Raw isn't raw when you apply a style or a film simulation. The dark cammo patch has a lot of blue. The other factor to be considered is t...

Finally, a day with aircraft! It has been fair dreich here lately, that's Scots for the weather has been fairly miserable. So it was nice to get a little bit of sunshine and some aviation photo-therapy today. G-CCSN Ce206 Wrecked following an engine failure and forced landing at Strathallan Airfield...

National Museum of Flight - East Fortune

I realised that I had not been to east Fortune in a very long time, so I rectified that last weekend. There's a quirk at the museum where you need a permit to use a tripod (tripod=professional,) so I used the median Stack, where I mounted the camera on a monopod, set a high ISO on the camera and gav...

Re: To SLR or not SLR?

Have you considered second hand? For that budget you are not going to be able to buy both a new camera and lens, so I'd suggest buying a second hand body and the best glass (possibly new) that you can afford. That way you can cut your teeth on the new camera and upgrade to a new body at a later date...

Scone 27 Nov 20, winter sunshine

Today's B-log The second time this week I have made the two hour drive from my Dad's house direct to Perth. It's beginning to get to be a habit that I don't want but Saturday looked like being the best day of the weekend and I had to make the trip. Having a stroke victim of a father isn't much fun a...

Re: Photoshop and other with sky change software.

I had the opportunity to make a presentation to my local camera club last night on the Photoshop Sky Replacement tool and it raised some points that is worth sharing. The Tool comes with a set number of skies, you can add your own as the default ones will become very hackneyed to the discerning view...

Re: Photoshop and other with sky change software.

Composite photos are nothing new, however I am fundamentally with the previous posters. The likes of Luminar and it's fantastic sky replacement tool is just not "natural" enough for me, if it needs be, I don't mind dodging and burning a sky that was there when the photo was taken. Anyway, ...

Scone (Skoon) or Perth Airport, is the largest GA field in Scotland, with three runways to play with; two hard and one grass, which is usually unavailable in the winter due to waterlogging.

A short period of unavailability, which to be honest does not happen all that often...apart from the occasional Bad Panda episode.
