Re: Northolt Night Photoshoot XXIX Thursday 5th October 2023

A very good event last night, thanks from me too Could I make one constructive critiscm/suggestion for next time - could the steps be controlled by an 'offical' letting up a group at a time and giving them a limited amount of time at the top before moving them on and letting the next group up. Some...

Blackjack has no hours left and is undergoing heavy maintenance and the display pilot has gone back to normal operations so will be a miracle if it does turn up.The PC21,S are probably the same ones that have been in before as is the Canadian Herc.Gone are the days when photoshoots used to be on Su...

Re: Northolt Night Photoshoot XXVIII Thursday 16th March 2023

And my final message for this event... Bring small change for the trolley dollies serving light refreshments. It keeps them happy, and if they're happy, we're happy. There will also be some 32 Sqn merch on sale as well, but before anyone asks, no, they haven't got F900 gizzits yet. This will be very...

On the question of why you need to present your ID all of a sudden, the answer is that the RAF Police will be more involved with the check in procedure tonight. We will, as ever, aim to get you inside as quickly as possible for your pre-event social, it might just take 8 seconds longer than usual. A...

Northolt Nightshoot Oct 22 - Lost Property

If anyone who attended the event has lost a lens bag, can they please get in touch with Phil.

It's branded for a specific manufacturer and seems to be quite expensive.

Cheers,

For those attending the Northolt Social Club this week can I please ask you to go retro and bring some old fashioned cash please? Our new charladies will have hot drinks, crisps and choccy bars, but no hot sandwiches this time around, so coins would be the ideal way to pay. Also, a reminder that onc...

Graf Zeppelin: Capt Tom, 'Nam, Utes and Lakehurst

The saying goes: "There are old pilots and bold pilots but there are no old, bold pilots..." One of Phil's friends - now sadly no longer with us - was Tom Casagrande, a retired US Army pilot who certainly fits into the latter category... Tom made it through 2 tours in Vietnam - the first s...

A Day in the Life - Graf Zeppelin Out and About, 4 May 1976

Life as a spotter 'back in the day' was a bit more exciting and varied than it is now. Phil's logbook records numerous weekly trips to East Anglia, and Mildenhall and Lakenheath especially to see what visiting traffic was visible from the outside. Sometimes, it was even possible to get on base and g...

Love the H-3, challenging stuff to scan with KR25 on a dull day. Hi Alan, These were a "challenge" I think it's safe to say! Committed to purchasing the Vuescan software in the end and it works a treat it has to be said (Although it doesn't work with Flextight scanners!) - just need to re...

Guess Who's Back... Graf Zeppelin's Lockdown Blues: Keflavik

After some rest and recuperation, I've been pestered to add some more of Phil's pictures to stop you all going stir crazy at home. So, here we go with a selection of pics from a not-so-sunny Keflavik taken on 15 August 1973. Not his usual blue sky pictures, but probably fitting for the mood of many ...

Graf Zeppelin's Day Job... (Or 'Tote-ing for Business!')

As you may - or may not be aware - the cash raised by the Northolt Nightshoots is the main income for a restoration project at the station. Known officially as 'The Sir Keith Park Building' (or Building 27 if you're lazy) is now approaching the home straight in terms of recreating what was the proto...

OK so without wanting to re open a discussion that I started after the last event But you're going to... there has to be some logical factor that makes this more dangerous than it was a year ago There have been no injuries and the station wants to keep it that way. The only incident I can think of ...

Re: When was the RAF at its peak?

Some First World War figures: In August 1914, the mobilised strength of the RFC. was146 officers and 1097 other ranks. The RNAS had 130 officers and 700 ratings. The RFC had 179 aircraft while RNAS possessed 39 aeroplanes, 52 seaplanes and 7 airships. Of these totals, less than 100 were fit to take ...

Re: Scanning Slides

You can still use the Nikon Scan software on a Windows 10 pc without any issues.

Simply install that, then download the trial version of Viewscan which installs the Nikon drivers you'll need and then open Nikon Scan and Bob's your uncle!
