EC-130Q Prestwick
Former military, government agency, definetly not commercial... The US National Science Foundation's former Marine Corps EC-130Q 162312 passed through Prestwick en route to Kiruna Airport in Northern Sweden for a six week detachment to study marine cold air outbreaks. Lovely light and a smart lookin...

Re: Back Button Focusing
I tried it for the first time recently, based on this thread. Since upgradding tp the 90D and 10-400 IS II, I'd never been happy with the results - a far higher rate of rejection and marginal quality, even on the keepers. I adapted quickly and the change in performance was immediate, giving me the r...

Re: Olympus Camera's R.I.P. ?
Started out with an OM-1n back in 1980, did the job nicely for static shots, as noted the optics were pretty good as you can see below:

Re: Trees or aircraft?
It looks like a small section of the existing tree line that will be removed. Whilst new trees will take a long time to mature, biodiversity will naturally spread from the much larger remaining plantation minimising the long term impact. My concern is that the new shed won't be nearly big enough to ...

I'll add in my few: A US Army Skycrane out and back to Leuchars at low level circa 1972, the Strathallan Lancaster (KB676) making what would sadly turn out to be it's last flight from Glasgow to Strathallan in '75. Lots of low level B-52's in the summer of 76 (Giant Voice?) and formation of 6-8 C-14...

Phil, Building 27 looks amazing. I had no idea that you'd made so much progress since I last saw it. Fantastic work.

Re: DoF, Focusing, Shutter Speed, what went wrong?
I don’t think it’s a depth-of-field issue. It’s down to optical sharpness. The lens is optimised for maximum sharpness at f8.

Re: DoF, Focusing, Shutter Speed, what went wrong?
I'm in the f8 club too. I went through exactly the the same issues you are experiencing with my 100-400. Softish looking shots even at high shutter speeds, so up the ISO and shutter speed but no better. I eventually noticed that shots at f8 were consistently good, even when the shutter speed was ge...

892 Depart on their last tour aboard the Ark
Thirty years ago - 6th April 1978, 892 Squadron began it’s last deployment aboard HMS Ark Royal, dispatching eight jets from Leuchars. This was also my brother and I's first time photographing at a military airfield outwith an airshow. The smell of paraffin, the songs of skylarks and the crackle of ...

Thanks Geoff, though you’d like it. Yes I’ve got endless Bandits and an Euroair Herald in the pipeline. Happy days back then, a quick plea to Elaine and Jeanette on the desk, a call to ATC and ramp access approved.

Sorry, that’s a good point - Glasgow in the days when the flying clubs had a key to the gate and an understanding not to wander to far.
