North Weald Diary 2022 - Lynx AH1 XZ179

Grabbed an hour or so at North Weald this afternoon to see Lynx AH1 up on a test flight in some nice light. I think this was the third flight, having first taken to the air in December and then again yesterday. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51847215439_4204ac8fb3_h.jpg https://live.staticflick...

Re: Grim Reapers at Lakenheath 21-01-2022

Lovely set Stu - the light was sublime. When are the Grim Reapers due to finish at Lakenheath? Scramble are reporting the F-15Cs & Ds will all have left by the end of Feb, although I have also heard end of March. There's nothing official yet AFAIK, although there are some events tak...

Bullet Flight of 493rd FS Grim Reapers

A very short but fruitful trip to Lakenheath on Friday in the hopes of catching the newly-painted F-15C with the tail art. An 8am arrival was too late to see the first launches and the eight F-15Cs from that early morning wave were all back on the ground by 9:25. Despite the forecast of clear winter...

Re: Valkyries & Rocketeers at RAF Lakenheath

Thanks for the comments. Berf, as Andy said, Scramble are reporting that the F-15Cs/Ds will be gone from Lakenheath by the end of Feb, although I have also heard later dates mentioned so worth keeping an eye and an ear out for anything official. As promised, here's a few more shots. All repetitive c...

So you did get a good sunset then - that first image is a stunner. Where were you for that one, right up against the fence?

Valkyries & Rocketeers at RAF Lakenheath

Trip out today to see the 'legacy Eagles' before they soon depart. Didn't quite work out as planned and only shot this pair, but there was plenty else going on with based Strike Eagles hot pitting, the visiting Seymour Johnson squadrons putting up jets and of course, the new boys from the 495th FS g...

The quality on these is superb, rain or shine. That last B-1 shot with the dramatic clouds is perfecto.

Agree with the others, those 707s are wonderful Dougie. Prestwick is a bit of a gem, it seems to get a regular flow of really interesting traffic. Happy New Year.

AF1 departure from LHR is a cracker - I kinda wish we'd stayed for that in hindsight, and I'm super jealous of those low level Eagles.

Very nice Dean. The shot of AF1 at Mildenhall is great, and I love the winter SJ departures too. Happy New Year.

Re: COP26 a Load of This! (PICTURE HEAVY)

These are great, Dan. There are some really smart liveries; US C-40s are very tidy, as is the Niger BBJ but the Korean 757 is brilliant.

Re: 48hr Photo Comp: A-10

Don't have much A-10 material to offer - the weather is normally rubbish whenever I see 'em. One occasion that the sun shone was during Exercise Vanguard in 2005, but as a noob to photography at that time with basic kit and no talent, these shots do not hold up well today. :see_no_evil: https://live...

Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July at Sywell (Merged)

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but it couldn’t be an F-15 anyway as there’s no F-15 demo anymore, and therefore no demo pilot authorised to fly in the formation?

Re: 48hr Photo Comp: Let's Burn Rubber

Thanks guys. A fine selection all round. Mentions to the excellent B-1s from Pete Fenwick and Mark Meades, Martin's superb Virgin 744 and three really strong contenders each from Alisdair, Shaun and Tomasz but the winning image belongs to Melvin Furster and his very pleasing photo of a Mirage 2000 t...

Lovely shots of a great subject. Appreciate the background info on the aircraft too.

Silver and day-glo orange go together so well, I wish we could have a Gnat flying in those colours.

48hr Photo Comp: Let's Burn Rubber

Okay, new theme and it's pretty self-explanatory. Looking for your best shots of aircraft at the moment the tyres hit the ground. Max three per person.

But the winner for me was the really clean shot of the Makos machine in clear blue skies, and no shadows on the tail, from LN Strike Eagle ! This is the second win for this shot, as I also picked it up for my "Ze little détail" contest. Slightly different shot, but both of the same aircra...

Re: North Weald Diary 2020

Second lockdown is over so the airfield is open to the public again - just nice to be out in the sun with the camera really. The Spitfire XI was out for a local flight this afternoon, and the low winter sunlight nicely illuminated the original under-wing camera blisters that were added to the airfra...
