Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
I thought that was down to the length of the runway as much as anything else?? In which case a STOVL aircraft shouldn't struggle too much. The heat produced by the vertical exhausts of the F-35B in STOVL mode means it could cause damage to any blacktop runway. Hence why the Queen Elizabeth-class ai...

Re: Canon RF 100-400
I have one to use with my R7. I bought it as a lightweight alternative to my 100-400L II. I can't comment on image quality, partly because I have not used the R7 with either lens very much and secondly because the R7 has such complex setup options, I have really not got my head around it. In terms ...

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2023 - 16th & 17th September
Highlights of Sunday for me were the B17/Lancaster and the big wing. Obviously, the weather significantly impacted the show, I was looking forward to the two Gladiators and the umbrella didn't help the two Lysanders. After that, I am afraid the whole thing left me a little flat, it seemed to lack th...

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2023 - 16th & 17th September
Reds are scheduled to be 16:30 both days with the Spitfire Finale afterwards, so unless the Reds have moved slot on Sunday, there may be a gap at some point, as no extra acts have been added. Looks like the BBMF have moved their slot forwards on Sunday. Reds are operating out of Marham, and are fly...

A bit of a gamble for them, particularly if the forecast looks dodgy in the run-up.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Thu 17 Aug 2023, 1:36 pmDuxford did the same with the Summer show this year, and last years October show. Line up not released until closer to the time.

True, but I would have thought there would be a significant list of Duxford-based Spits and other warbirds, before thinking about other visitors.

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2023 - 16th & 17th September
Any idea why confirmations are so slow this year? I have just looked at last year's thread and the initial flying list released in June had 28 aircraft on it, including 11 Spitfire, and 5 Hurricane. By the end of July the list had increased to 17 Spitfires, 6 Hurricanes, 3 Buchon and 16 other aircra...

Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread
Very pleased with the flying display on Friday and Saturday, in differing challenging conditions. We felt there was a "can do" attitude, that has been missing on occasions in the past. Every effort being made to make the best of awful weather.
Very disappointed to not see the Me262 at all.

Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Leeds East/Church Fenton
Just home. Literally zero traffic in at around 10am, to the extent that when we ended up in the car park that had access restricted during flying, we were helpfully given directions to the other car park, being waved through all the road closed signs along the way. Ground layout was not the best, wi...

Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Leeds East/Church Fenton
Any comments on traffic and parking please? I got to the car park just before 7. Straight in with no issues, except as a blue badge holder I was initially parked in the wrong place. Had no issues getting out at the end, either. Thank you. Anyone any comments from later in the morning please, 9.30ish?

Re: Security
I think it took me about 1.5 minutes to get through the security tent (albeit with absolutely no queue at all so, no waiting for the person in front). That's a long time. For 3 of us it seemed to take a huge amount of time. Ticket scanner didn't work, wand thing bleeping arl because of keys and cha...

Re: Security
What are the checks like for the main show days? For arrivals, all it's been is poke round the camera bag, examine my sandwiches and bid me good day. No wand... no pat down... no bags through scanners. Maybe this is just how it is for arrivals and main show days will be different. Not complaining a...

Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Leeds East/Church Fenton
Most unlikely for this year then? It doesn't leave too many options for its debut. Duxford BoB, Goodwood revival, Shuttleworth or maybe Eastbourne this year? If its completed its test flying program in time, I can see them attending Goodwood Revival static show with it in the hope of winning the tr...

Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Leeds East/Church Fenton
It has only flown about three times due to engine issues. From what I hear the owner is not interested in doing airshows with it. Thanks. That's a shame about airshows, but seems true of a few that Biggin keep. Has there been any news on the Tempest that had been due to debut last year at Eastbourn...
