Re: NATO22 into RAF Waddington
Nice to see something with a spinning roof back at Wadd.
Certainly not converted to smokeless coal yet for those engines.
Lovely, clear, contrasty pp work again.

Re: How do you store your gear?
I think you're taking 'more than adequate' precautions to mitigate risks associated with inclement situations (and certainly more than some others do that I know). Only 2 slight additions I undertake: 1. I have a rainbag for the camera/lens combo when used in damp conditions, (a polythene bag and bi...

Re: Back Button Focusing
I'm in the camp of not using it. Despite trying it out, I had negligible difference; I also found the Canon bodies I used (90D, 5Div and 1DXii), had sufficient Digic progress processing power and speed to handle focus, metering and shutter release together via the single button, rather than attempti...

Re: RAF Bulldog Celebration, Church Fenton 1 July
We had a number of these beauties on our flight line during my time with CFS at Scampton. Towed out every morning, flew, minimal problems and put to bed ready for the next day. Great to work on; Tucanos on the other hand...

Re: King's Birthday flypast 17th June (aka Trooping the Colour)
Would you want to fly close in its substantial wake? I'm surprised its never escorted by fighters. The Hawk T2 seems an obvious omission from the flypast I thought. If you expand the graphic, it appears RAFAT have now been fully trained on the T2 although the text states T1. Quality reporting.

If the OP indicates CR3, does it not come with the latest Canon refined algorithms within DPP for noise reduction?

Great compilation of work Shaun. I'm heading to Skye for a period after a break in Oban next year; if I return with anything like these, I'll be very happy. Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe is phenomenal on a cool, calm and misty morning (that way I can hopefully hide those scabby electric pylons...).

Re: Media City Salford/Manchester
Despite it being only a second attempt, the returns are very good. Issues often seen with night photography revolve around metering, which affects exposure, - here your metering has worked well (did you use any -ev at all to maintain the rich blacks)? In image 1 you have identified the pole, as it s...

Re: Yes more Kingfisher photos
Lovely shots Ian. Credit for opening up on working from a Hide; I've got some of my best KF images from Hide work (using one in S Lincs). It still comes down to focus and timing. Great metering too, that white patch on the throat and neck can become easily over-exposed, especially with channel chang...

Lovely images, crisp and sharp. Very detailed and well metered for. I'm also interested in the light source, did you use raw and awb?

Also 17(F) was my Brüggen Sqn Tour, so those sides of CA are special too !

So very sad to read of this. I first met him during my time working with CFS at Scampton. He was a true gentleman, never fazed, cheerful and always had time to talk with every groundcrew member he met. I had the good fortune to meet him again within Ops at RAF Waddington, often daily. Final memories...
