Re: Recent Lakenheath/Mildenhall

Lovely shots Dan, some attractive UK based fast jets worth photographing and done so exceptionally well.

Will be a shame when we lose the C/Ds, that little bit of disruptive patterning makes the world of difference.

Great shots Stu, lovely detail on the first, second my favourite of all, stunning light and you know how much I like a side on shot.

They look pretty decent to me, especially the last two.
Cheers Norman, have to admit XV574 was my favourite scheme post camo RAF Phantom, only saw her at IAT 1989 and as she arrived we had a B-52 parked in front of us hence the 3/4 front landing shot.

Look good to me Paul , vibrant colour and sharp, great subjects as well. Out of interest what scanner are you using? Cheers Mark, colours look better on my laptop than on my work monitor, have a slight greenish tint there, so I never know which is more accurate. Scanner is an Epson 4870 Perfection ...

1983 - 1990 Scans from Negatives

Testing the slide/negative scanner on some negatives from the early years of my airshows. Hoping they look OK, but any constructive feedback would be good. 1988 Staverton Shackleton AEW2 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50391920721_471f140615_c.jpg img257 (2) by Paul Downes , on Flickr Hawk T1 ht...

Re: Aviation- On This Day

Very nice Bernard, Bierset was my first overseas airshow - the last Mirage 5 show before retirement. I paid for the enthusiast's package which took you farside, not really much good as the sun went round anyway, what little sun there was, it was cold, largely damp and stormy and both times I was on ...

Re: Aviation- On This Day

I see one was chopped a couple of years back, otherwise 7 out of 12! And they were rubbish.

If you consider only 8 from 54 VC10s and two of those are highly dubious now whether they'll survive, and only 4 complete Tridents from 117. The Mercure is rather Mercurial in its after service life.

Cheers guys, that DC-8 is a great beast Andy and it surprises me when you look at the rate of airliner scrapping over here, how many Mercures are just lying around airports. Love that F1 exhibit as well.

Re: Aviation- On This Day

1994, a long arduous coach trip to Nancy-Ochey. There were some lovely aircraft on show, sadly the flying display was so far away it was virtually unreachable. The Swiss Hunters were performing for the last time outside Switzerland and the Mirage IV performed a RATO take off which no one saw as it d...

Perhaps the biggest seen in the 'raspberry ripple' scheme, BAC-111, at Greenham Common 1983. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50380333551_90c9a7d6f7_b.jpg its up there Norman, the Comet 4 from Farnborough is the holder of the record though. Agreed, great show and great coverage. Slightly too many minutes on Aguila and a few more on arrivals would have been even better - Crusaders, Lightning, F-111s etc

Oops, sorry missed these from 22nd September 2000. A mini tiger gathering for the disbandment of 74 squadron, losing the RAF's fixed wing tiger squadron and an original founding member. Mirage 2000s from Cambrai and Mont-de-Marsan and two AG51 Tornados among the attendees. https://live.staticflickr....

OK, very difficult to narrow down to three, so I'll pick three special schemes from Landivisiau in 2008. Earlier Crusader just for fun. Onto the show day for Finningley 1991, it had clouded in a bit by the time the Russian Knights arrived and I wasn't in the best place for them so hopefully someone will post better. Re: Aviation- On This Day

Apologies these are probably a week late, taken on the Friday and Saturday of Farnborough 1990, but I've only just managed to get the slides off my brother. I was still shooting print then, grrrrr, and the slides scan much better. Anyway Su27 UK debut that year along with the incredibly impressive A...
