Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

Air Forces will only send what they want to send/are able to. As I mentioned in another thread, some enthusiasts live in a dreamworld where they think DBH go shopping in an aircraft equivalent of Tesco to decide what they want to attend the show and it simply just doesn't work like that. So you are...

Re: Forum dying?

I think with the imminent disappearance of the type from many of the major users we should all call for a special event this year. the "Pee Free Parade" With the Germans the only regular attendee with the type over recent times, (perhaps we could let the Canadians participate, sneak Aurora...

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

The very fact that RAF Jet Provost/Tucano and solo Hawk displays were a guaranteed shoe on at almost every IAT/RIAT for 40 years until they were pulled from the circuit, I'm not sure where they are not something people go to RIAT to see. They will be seen in the mix with helicopter displays, transpo...

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

Its fair comment, the only thing I'd ask is what exactly is a stand out item for an old timer like yourself or me? Keeping it realistic and looking at an item for the flying display. Croatian MiG21 perhaps before they're gone. A Pakistani JF-17 display. USAF A-10 display in its SEA scheme. As good a...

Seems like all the Polish Air Force effort is going to Denmark then, United Kingdom nil points.

Was rather hoping the Irish PC-12 with the terrible camo tail was going to turn up. Good to see a return of the Lone Ranger's favourite display team though.

Interestingly, FNHT is registered by the Gambling Commission - I presume because they have a regular fundraising lottery?
It might be for the wagers of whether the aircraft actually survive the whole season in one piece.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

Back in the 1990s glory days there were issues with numbers in the flying display, so F-16s for example would fly one day only, Belgian Alpha Jet would alternate with something else, even MiG29s alternated one year IIRC - could you believe that would happen now? It shouldn't happen now, after a pack...

My Dad was stationed up there around that time with 849 Squadron.

Some great stuff on there, love the little silver and dayglo Gnat, Dominie, Andover and Atlantic would have all been fairly new at that time as well.

Lovely stuff.

No idea why there would be a problem showing a small child a 1930s side by side biplane trainer up close?

Great photos.

I have to be honest the "tiger schemes" get more odd year on year, the Spanish Hornet is quite smart and the Greek quite stylish before it peeled, but the rest leave me more than puzzled as to what they were thinking?

A bit of a stretch saying the Omanis are bringing a new type, a different variant yes, but not type. Pedant hat on. Transport ones are nicer anyhow. Hard hat on. We need some proper flying, today's update was ok but again its been so bland for last 4 weeks
Brazilian KC-390, Romanian An30, Lithuanian Dauphin, Omani CASA 295MPA, Hungarian Mi24s, German A340, even French PC-21s - all UK airshow firsts - bland?

Hard to please some people.
