Re: RAF Wittering July 1975
You can tell they are GR3s - they don't have the twin outlets for the electrical system cooling on the upper fuselage just behind the cockpit. The single one on the upper starboard side was added slightly later on many UK based aircraft (You could still see the patches put over the twin outlets on s...

The P1127 still makes me cringe, although it had been reported scrapped years before, it went via Shoeburyness and Wittering IIRC

Re: Two Mil Two Days @ Norwich !
Here's an interesting question - given that the King Airs for the RAF and the Navy are going to be replaced under MFTS what's the chances that there may be a replacement of Shadow based on the Phenom? Highly unlikely - the Navy Avengers are part of MFTS at the moment, and as they are training Obser...

HMS Queen Elizabeth Naming Ceremony
Weather was not very good, grey and windy, added to which the autofocus on the camera was playing up (i.e. I forgot to change it back after mucking around with it! ), so this was the only shot I got that amounted to anything!! I'm posting it mainly because I think this was the first public appearanc...

Re: Save "Black Mike" Group
I'm sorry, am I reading this correctly. There are people on here actually saying that they would only support Black Mike being saved if she stayed in Scotland..... ... who gives a hoot where she is being kept, the priority has to be to save her first, then argue where she will go.... T This one doe...

Re: Save "Black Mike" Group
I'd support a campaign to save Black Mike but one that was keeping it in Scotland, not dragging it 400 miles away never to be seen again.

I didn't know Mick, but his name is instantly recognisable. A sad loss for the enthusiast community, and most importantly for his family.

Possibly same route ZZ504 took, Gama, then to Raytheon, then de-registered.

Do we know if the third one is an Army or RAF Islander - IIRC the RAF ones didn't have the two tone camo scheme.

I suspect 5% relates to the number of missions where kinetic effect (munitions dropped in the current jargon) is used. I suspect all missions are flown armed these days (Initial RAF Reaper ops were unarmed)

Re: waddingtons uav squadron
Was featured on Radio 4 last night / early this morning. In fact , a poor showing overall by the BBC who spent much of the feature discussing armed UAVs despite the statement from the RAF/MOD saying that the UK only deploy their UAV on unarmed surveillance & reconnaissance missions. Not true - ...

Re: Edinburgh Airport Visitor
Nice catch, I've done the same at EDI (although it was a VC10 for me!) I think (and if I'm wrong someone correct me!) but G-VYGG is being used for transport flights, without the refuelling gear at present. As it's civil registered and operated by Air tanker rather than the RAF, it doesn't need the d...

It's at least a III, given the Hercules engines. I suspect it's an A.VII, AIX or AX airborne forces variant

Re: Are there any Harriers Flying in the UK?
Currently the only UK Harrier flying is Art Nellis' SHar Stateside. Tell that to the Indians, I'm sure that they'd be interested to hear that! Didn't realise the Indians were still flying the ex-UK ones! I think a couple of the T4(I)s are still flying. They are ex-RAF. XW175 (VAAC Harrier) was with...

If you are including the Yak & Chipmunk, then you have to include RAE Bedford's Piper Cherokee G-ATJG m Used by the RAE Flying club IIRC - there may have been a couple of other light aircraft that carried the scheme as well. Spuriouser and spuriouser!... Erm, dunno how far to go with that, perh...

Unless I'm mis-reading the report, they have not actually carried out a refuelling yet, merely flown the aircraft close enough to make contact.

The forum really needs a 'Like' or 'Thanks' option so you can show your appreciation without leaving a comment - it can be a bit difficult to come up with something that eiether doesn't sound repetative.
