Re: Mark Petrie - RIP
I first met Mark over 20 years ago and he was one of the good guys in aviation, always happy to help and advise. He loved his Strikemaster G-SOAF, having recovered it from Oman in the mid 2000's, with it being the last example of the type ever put together. A stalwart and main man in JP and Strikema...

N98TP did a hop to Solent Airport last week, from Southampton for a drink.
Yep, flew down just for fuel as Southampton didn't have any!

Re: NavyWings - News and Updates
I think 2023 is a bit optimistic for the Sea Hawk.... 2025 was the earliest target date given the last time I went to Yeovilton to speak with the engineers (for displays). Having said that, Navy Wings does have two engineers working on it, and on it only so it might be making some better progress th...

Arrived at 0845 and the ticket checks were interesting. I did a few formation changes in the queues.
Then being directed to park I rolled over the top of a motor home.into my final parking position.
Let's say my wingman is "tight" next to me too.

Re: The Historic Helicopters Thread
It would be good to see the Sea Kings display more frequently (I remember a post in the Abingdon thread last year said that the Belgian Sea King was too expensive to justify) - the Yellow ones have performed a few displays, but neither Belgian Sea King has performed a display in preservation yet, h...

Re: The Historic Helicopters Thread
Great news that ZF122 is coming back to life, but both HH's Junglie cabs and one of its Mk.3s (XZ588 I think?) are available for sale currently, or at least were, alongside the Lynx AH.7.
Unless that has changed, I think any refinish into Arctic camo is on hold (hope not!).

Re: Contra-Rotating Spitfires
Modifying the ex-Shack Griffon to 'Spitfire spec' is an approved mod, but takes a bit of work. There were, IIRC, 6 custom reduction gears manufactured by Rolls-Royce in the 1980s at great expense, to convert Griffon 58s to single prop. One of those was lost with the RNHF Firefly. ...indeed it was. ...

Re: New Medium Helicopter - Discuss
No need to discuss it. The AW149 will get it either outright or partial, otherwise Leonardo's long-term future in Yeovil (where it is the major employer) looks very bleak.

Apparently the second aircraft involved was a Curtis's Helldiver.

Re: Future Display Team Aircraft
The decision to prolong the Reds fleet has already forced the Navy to disband 736NAS and the RAF to cut 100 Sqn, so I think they will disband once they run out of Hawks.

Re: Red Arrows - Seven aircraft display 2022
I believe you will find that a rejuvenated and motivated Reds team next year will arise - Ok the Hawk T1 is dated but there must be plenty of spare airframes and spares around to keep them flying for the foreseeable future. Beware of media sensationalism and stick to facts I say! Yep. Plenty of spa...
