Re: RAF100 Re-enactors at Cosford

Thank you to all who took the time to respond. I'm particularly pleased that PeterR and his colleagues at Cosford enjoyed them - and thanks for the correction Peter that I will make to my version. And as a thank you to thunderbird167, who made the case for the re-enactors better than I could have do...

RAF100 Re-enactors at Cosford

Not sure I've seen any other photos of these on here so I hope they are of some interest. The organisers went to a great deal of effort so it would be a shame not to make the most of it. Unfortunately, unless I was even more dozy than usual, there weren't any info boards on the day, so it has taken ...

Re: Airshow RAF Cranwell 1974?

I can recall attending a Lord Taverners Cricket match at Cranwell in (I think) the early 1970's at which the Reds displayed. I believe they may have been regular events from the late 1960's to mid 1970's so could have been one of those? Now that rings a bell - you are almost certainly right. Big th...

Airshow RAF Cranwell 1974?

A question for those with long aviation memories/records - was there an airshow at RAF Cranwell in summer 1974? I was a still-wet-behind-the-ears weather forecaster starting at Cranwell in Oct 1973. One of the non-routine briefings I remember giving was to the Red Arrows - but I can't track down any...

According to the checklist it was ZJ230 - but I too cannot see that anywhere on the airframe in my photos to confirm

Re: Raptor Foundation - Birds of Prey

I have to admit to being no fan of birds - but those are such excellent pictures I could spend ages looking at them. You really seem to have captured their characters - as well as great colours, composition and sharpness. Fantastic shots - I really enjoyed those.

Great set - and perfect timing for me. I'm doing a similar trip in a couple of weeks time and I'll be pleased if I get something half as good as that. So some useful pointers and quality to aspire to - thanks for posting.

Re: Dragonflies and Damselflies

Absolutely excellent photographs - all the better for being labelled. I have seen quite a few of the big blue ones (about the limit of my knowledge) on Dartmoor this summer. Never in a month of Sundays did I imagine anyone could get an inflight shot - you either have phenominal reactions or they mov...

Re: Trying a new presentation style - classic cars

Hi Colin, Loved your steam train pics in similar style. And actually, yes, I think the style may well be best suited to reducing the clutter in static - be that classic cars - or aircraft for that matter. Be interested to see if these work. http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm288/MetManOSM/uFoSSMer...

Re: Trying a new presentation style - classic cars

One small thing though, maybe don't take the bleaching quite so close, example in the first one it's almost touching the windscreen area of the car, (if it had one) and in the second the driver looks like he's ducking to get under it!!!! That might well be a useful improvement Jeff. I've gone back ...

Re: Trying a new presentation style - classic cars

Very nice, I like the effect but the "tilt" is a little too much for me, can't help thinking the cars are about to fall off the page! Thanks Tim. You raise an interesting point - those are essentially the angles that came out of the camera - it was a hill climb Maybe that is a visual effe...

Trying a new presentation style - classic cars

Some from the MG Club meeting at Wiscombe Park Hill Climb last weeked. The sun wasn't shining so I had a play around to see if I could make the most of them - with due acknowlwdgement to the chap on here who did something similar with steam trains a while back. A bit far removed from 'proper' photog...

Re: Sywell Great War Airshow 2014

Really enjoyed the day yesterday. Kept my expectations low because of the wind and so came away very happy with some good (by my standard) pics in great light. Seemed very well organised - straight in the carpark at 0830, queue went in 0930 I think with no fuss, easy stroll to a spot on the crowd li...

Trade day :- arrived nice and early , got in the cue , came to have my Trade Visitor pass scanned only to be told " trade visitors aren't allowed into the show until 9:30 " Is there any reason you need to get into the show at 9:15 ? " Of the top of my head " yes I have a meeting...

Re: Thoughts on the show.

I was taught a very useful lesson yesterday.... After being turned away from Car Park I at 0710 (which had used on the Wed) and then a few minutes later from Eeelmoor for being too early I ended up at Queens Parade and got into the queue a bit grumpy at about 0740. I stood next to a fairly local fam...

A bit to my surprise, those angled extreme-panning ones work well for me. Your panning skills must be excellent and the way you have presented them is engaging. Must try that next time I go to hill climbing - though don't hold out too much hope that my skills are up to it  Thanks for posting.

Yes, that smoke works really well - excellent. Is the dio based on a real scene/rig or something you thought up yourself? Not something I've seen in the old video clips.
