Re: RAFM disposals
A delta wing research aircraft is not significant ? The question is not whether it's a significant aircraft, the question is whether it is significant within the story that the museum aims to tell at this point. If that particular aircraft could go to Woodford, to be displayed at the Avro Heritage ...

Re: RAFM disposals
I actually enjoy playing devil's advocate, so apologies in advance. If you look at the RAFM's policy, the museum is basically there to tell the 'RAF story'. As both World Wars were integral to that story, it makes sense to have several aircraft from the opponent's side in the collection to balance o...

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
It has been a wonderful diversion to be able to follow the goings on at Duxford while everything else has been distinctly non-normal. Thank you for that! Best wishes for the festive season and let's hope for a better 2021!

The Cat was spotted overflying Inverness, so it looks like she's off the loch and on the way back home (via Inverness).

https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=PL983&license=2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C6%2C9 I see that these are all shared on Flickr under a Creative Commons licence, but does that always allow full use of the image? I'm not sure that all variants of the licence allow commercial use, but that may also be because of m...

Re: Catalina loch Ness difficulties
That clears up my confusion, thanks. I did my best to go to the source of the story and tried various outlets but could not find confirmation of impending engine change.cometguymk1 wrote: ↑Tue 20 Oct 2020, 2:11 pmI asked on Twitter and after investigation its more serious than first thought so the engines got to come off.

Re: Catalina loch Ness difficulties
A post on WiX by the crew chief stated that it was just a busted starter, but in this GoFundMe appeal, an engine change is needed. The post on The Catalina's Society Facebook page also mentions their engineer changing a starter motor only... I would want to know a bit more before contributing to a f...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?
They can protest all they want, but they didn't cough up the £34,000 so they don't own it. As the new owner, it's up to mr. Wiseman to decide what to do with it. Personally, I think it's a smart scheme and if it will keep the aircraft intact, why not. Keeping this large chunk of aluminium intact and...

Re: Three injured in B-25 off-airport landing.
... as I believe this B-25 is an actual combat veteran and not a TB-25 as quite a number of the flyers seem to be. It may well be a combat veteran, but it was still converted to TB-25N spec after returning to the USA in July 1945. See here: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/b25registry/b25-4428938.htm...

My bad, didn't pick up on that one. I thought they were transiting to Stockton when they got into trouble. Note to self: read the previous posts and pay attention

Three injured in B-25 off-airport landing.
B-25 'Old Glory' developed a mechanical problem last Saturday and had to be landed in a field, resulting in significant damage and three injured occupants. See here: https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/thr ... h-landing/

Re: RW382 in US markings
If you’ve only got one Spitfire in a country, it makes sense to paint it in a local scheme. I guess the UK Spitfire population is big enough that a bit of diversity is possible.
