I asked on Twitter and after investigation its more serious than first thought so the engines got to come off.
That clears up my confusion, thanks. I did my best to go to the source of the story and tried various outlets but could not find confirmation of impending engine change.

Re: Catalina loch Ness difficulties

A post on WiX by the crew chief stated that it was just a busted starter, but in this GoFundMe appeal, an engine change is needed. The post on The Catalina's Society Facebook page also mentions their engineer changing a starter motor only... I would want to know a bit more before contributing to a f...

Re: Blackburn Beverley anyone?

They can protest all they want, but they didn't cough up the £34,000 so they don't own it. As the new owner, it's up to mr. Wiseman to decide what to do with it. Personally, I think it's a smart scheme and if it will keep the aircraft intact, why not. Keeping this large chunk of aluminium intact and...

Re: Three injured in B-25 off-airport landing.

... as I believe this B-25 is an actual combat veteran and not a TB-25 as quite a number of the flyers seem to be. It may well be a combat veteran, but it was still converted to TB-25N spec after returning to the USA in July 1945. See here: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/b25registry/b25-4428938.htm...

My bad, didn't pick up on that one. I thought they were transiting to Stockton when they got into trouble. Note to self: read the previous posts and pay attention

Re: Three injured in B-25 off-airport landing.

Night VFR is a lot more common in the USofA. I'm not saying it's a great idea, but if the weather was VMC and they wanted to get home...

Three injured in B-25 off-airport landing.

B-25 'Old Glory' developed a mechanical problem last Saturday and had to be landed in a field, resulting in significant damage and three injured occupants. See here: https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/thr ... h-landing/

Re: RW382 in US markings

If you’ve only got one Spitfire in a country, it makes sense to paint it in a local scheme. I guess the UK Spitfire population is big enough that a bit of diversity is possible.😉

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

I remember a statement from just after its move to Fort Paull, saying that it would not survive another move. I don't know how it was taken apart, using production breaks or with an angle grinder, but it may not be in perfect, one previous owner, condition.

The former is the only one still in existence, even if not in a perfect condition. The latter type has several examples available with one or more still flying.

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

Making money from an aviation museum is not really feasible these days, especially with the limitations at the site, so the aviation side was always dependent on the business side of Bruntingthorpe doing well. As mentioned above, Dave Walton has done great work over the years but right now the comme...

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

No, by the new owners, who purchased the business and the lease on the airfield. The old owners were the Walton family and Dave Walton is still looking into creating a museum/storage area for the airframes that are owned by him. Unfortunately the VC10s are not included in those plans.

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?

The VC10 team has had to close down the fundraising efforts. After a month, the balance was too low and it was not deemed prudent to continue. Donations will be refunded. If the VC10s are still at Bruntingthorpe on October 31st, the owner will be taken to court and he will have to remove them. If th...

Spitfire T.9 TE308 flying again

As posted on WiX, and from the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar Facebook page: Spitfire trainer TE308 is back in the air in a really nice RAAF scheme.
