Re: Russian airliner forced to land in corn field

Seriously well built Airbus A320 !

That’s a successful landing on water in The Hudson and now this one in a cornfield.

A320 - built like a brick-thing.

Re: UK RAF base defences?

The only realistic attack by missiles and drones would need to be sub launched to threaten RAF and USAF bases in the U.K. or be long range ballistic missiles. If an enemy can launch cruise missiles and drones from land then the rest of Europe is having a worse time than we are as they will be occupi...

Re: No to digging up Gibson's dog

If the dog was called Fido and the code name for breaches of any dams was “Fido” ( “It’s Fido Sir!” ) then nobody would care either way. People are only galvanised one way or the other because of the name and “outrage for” or against “outrage over” a name. Anyway. The story isn’t about “No to diggin...

Re: B-17s potential groundings

Wouldn't they be better off looking at a real full-size B17? That’s what I thought until I realised that someone had missed the E , F or G model out of the sentence. The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Boeing Model B–17E, B–17F, and B–17G airplanes. So the sentence should...

I don’t want to put a “downer” on this - but - my local - Blackpool Airport - went into council ownership after Balfour Beatty totally messed it up - I now rent an office a few hundred yards from the runway threshold that was on the commercial airport a few years back and is now on a brown field ind...

I am really sorry for any offence I caused by suggesting that I have anyone who knows anything on good authority and for trying to inject some humour into the board. Re: Zelensky wants aircraft from the UK

Zelensky and Ukraine are playing a PR blinder. He doesn’t want a few fighter jets or a few tanks - it’s keeping Ukraine in our minds as the “downtrodden victim” of the big bad Russia. The same effect that pop stars asking the public for money or football stars doing the same - when any of them could...

Holty and Derek demonstrating the problem that happens with peace talks when one or more parties don’t really want peace ! Anyway. easyProp? when I started flying eJ 25 years ago they made a big thing in their inflight mag about a common aircraft type (although back then it was all B737) a whole load of other stats about how they could afford to sell cheap seats, it compared a eJ and a BA 737 showing how many seats each had to...

Re: Air defence in "WW3"?

Hour 1 Russia launch significant numbers of strike bombers against the UK armed with cruise missiles. The RAF's ground based radar network detect the incoming expected air strike. The RAF respond with Typhoons armed with Meteors to engage at maximum range, with the F-35s held in reserve. The Royal ...

Re: Air defence in "WW3"?

Surely the answer would be different if one of our near neighbours was likely to attack us. If we had a land border with Russia our availability and number of tanks, ground troops etc would be different. Our current availability for air defence is based on no threats anywhere near us any time soon t...

If the USAF are putting aircraft up to help then the “enemy” has to pass our Allies in Norway, Sweden, Germany , Holland, Belgium , France, Spain and Portugal ( to name a few near ones ) to get to the RAF over the U.K.

The airfield closes 14:30L 18th November 2022. It’s not flying out, that is now 99.99% assured. Unlikely to have any engine runs after early November, as there will be less operational staff to look after the visitors. 0.01% - so you’re telling me there’s a chance. https://youtu.be/zMRrNY0pxfM

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Like them or loath them, VTST got this thing in the air and operated it fairly satisfactorily for a number of years. I wonder how the "know all" detractors would have managed? If you’re only allowing anyone who has successfully restored and returned a Vulcan to flight, as the only people ...
