I'll await your results Brian, thanks!
I was relevant to use a 2x tc as I had one previously & it seemed to make the lens a bit softer. Having said that it was on a 70-200 2.8 not the 120-300 2.8. As you say it's a cheaper option, thanks.

Re: Bigger lens or full frame?
Thanks, Unfortunately the new regs definitely do make a difference to me. I know that an effective 600+MM lens should be ok, but the two shows I've been to this year (Shuttleworth & Duxford) I've noticed a big difference in my photos. I don't usually shoot military stuff, mainly warbirds, so I'v...

Bigger lens or full frame?
With the new CAA regs taking displays further away from the crowd line I'm thinking about more reach with my lens. What are peoples thoughts of a longer lens against a full frame & cropping more? Obviously getting both is the ideal but which one would get better results? I currently use a Nikon ...

I thought I heard a familiar engine sound from the house today, so I grabbed the camera & went across the road for half an hour. I was lucky enough to catch one of my favorites put on a very nice display. Great to see it flying again. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2901/14000687100_edae7e5a53_b....

Re: Camera advice for pole photography?
So I ended up with a selfie pole, a Nikon P7800 & used the Nikon iphone app for live view & shutter actuation. Quite pleased with the setup. Here is one from my first outing with it today.

Thanks very much MarkL. Here are some shots of N3200 first display over Duxford. Re: Camera advice for pole photography?
That sounds just the sort of thing i was thinking of Brian. I like the idea of wifi & not using cables or a timer. I need to do a bit of home work on compact cameras now, I didn't realize how many there were out there! Hmmm Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panosonic, Fujifilm.........

Re: Camera advice for pole photography?
Thanks for the advice Brian, I think I'll have a look at the selfie pond. Im trying to find a little camera that I can view the live view screen on my iphone so I can compose the shot reasonably accurately. Nice photos btw!

Camera advice for pole photography?
Hi, I'm after some advice on a compact cameras that I would mostly use for shooting on the end of a pole to get a higher viewpoint. I guess it would need a tilt screen unless there is a way of getting live view on an iphone? It would be interesting to hear what setup people use.

Re: P9374 portraits (+ a couple of N3200)
Thanks Ewart & Tom, I must admit I'm very pleased with the first 2 shots. There is a balance between creating dramatic highlights & losing detail, & that can be difficult. I quite like the fact that its not obvious what you are looking at in some of the shots & that's exactly what I ...

Re: P9374 portraits (+ a couple of N3200)
Just a few more shots, I was hoping to get both MK1's in one shot but it didn't really happen. The first shot was taken through a gap in the doors of hangar 3 with a bit of guess work thrown in. The only thing the gap was too small for my camera so I had to take the lens off, pass the body & len...

Re: P9374 portraits

P9374 portraits (+ a couple of N3200)
I have to take photos of this beautiful aircraft every time I visit Duxford, (which is quite a lot since we moved in just over the road!). With N3200 possibly taking over my obsession when it eventually leaves area 51 I thought I would share some of my favorites of P9374. Cheers, Jamie. https://farm...

Sigma 500mm f4.5 prime lens...any good?
Anyone used a sigma 500mm f4.5 lens for shooting aircraft? I thought it looked like an affordable alternative to the big nikon prime lens. I currently use a sigma 120-300 2.8 with a 1.4tc on a Nikon d300, pretty happy with the results but always looking for something else!
Cheers, Jamie.
