Re: Doncaster Sheffield Airport,lease signed!
Good new for us as we will be moving up to the Coningsby/Waddington area at the end of this year so it will be an alternative to East Midlands.

Re: Blackbushe Air Day 2024
The airday website is now live with participating aircraft. It is mostly light aircraft at the moment with a few vintage aircraft. This page is run by the airport and relates to aircraft who have asked for PPR slots and is updated regually, no secrets like many events. https://www.blackbusheairday.c...

Indeed, Tempest is top of the shopping list. It last visited the airport under its own power in 1949 when it was delivered to India, and then when recovered by Doug Arnold.

Re: Disappearing Twin-Engine Types
Even away from the vintage scene twins are a dying breed. Try finding a airworthy Navajo, Aztec, twin commanche, baron, Cessna 421 etc in the UK, very few around. Plenty still flying in the US but airworthyness directives and maintenance costs have killed them in the UK and Europe. The older twins a...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
I now tend to alternate with one year Monday P&V and one year Friday show, depends how well off I am. The weekend days are now out of my price range. At the moment its about a 2 hour drive max, from around a years time it will be 4 hours when we move to the Coningsby/Waddo area. I may well then ...

Re: Berlin Airlift
The Civilian airlift is well documented as there were many less aircraft. KN442 did participate in the airlift with 46 sqn. If you want to delve into the National Archives website and you could find a digital copy of the squadron ORB for that period and that should list each flight month by month.

Not aware of any that have been airporthy in the uk in the last couple of years except HA-ANG but don't know when that last flew? HA-MKF was damaged in a storm in 2016 and some repairs were done but around a year later it was ferried back to Hungary for full repairs. It was then found to need a coup...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
I think RIAT going bi-annual is just an excuse for it to fade away eventually. It is entering a new era, as it has done several times before. There will simply be less aircraft about. Who knows in the next 2 years we might get a bonus Ukraine heavy show one year? For me RIAT is the only big show lef...

Been looking at the planned D-day 80th C-47/DC-3 tour from the US of maybe 15 aircraft( most came in 2019) and they are listed as visiting RIAT, although how many will stay for that 3 weeks after the main event is anybodies guess. https://www.ddaysquadron.org/2024-legacy-tour

Re: Duxford Dates 2024
I love Daks, and would love to see a better event than 2019. The Lee event before that was also a shambles. I would just dream of a photo day at North Weald with just daks lined up on the north side, with no barriers, would pay alot for that. Trouble is weather is oftern crap that time of year.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
But are the enclosures actually anywhere close to full or is it just because most people in the enclosures want to be at the front? Of the last 20 RIAT's I have done P&V monday only, no show days, for 15 of them. Certianlly the first 10-12 of those I always brought on the day. I don't think att...

Re: Your Favourite UK Airshow Venue
For me its Fairford, it is the only real airshow left for me. While I love warbirds and vintage aircraft Duxford and OW are just too samey year after year for me. I like fast jets operating from the show site, I want to smell the jet fuel and feel the ground shake, thats why I love RIAT departures. ...

From the start I always had the impression that UKHAT was run by a teenager with an over active imagination from his bedroom. In the last 18 months I have been involved in a very small way with the Blackbushe Heritage Trust. In that time it has gone from zero to owning a Vickers Viking and bringing ...

I would add to get a a/c room it fou can, we didn't and it was difficult. Wasn't a fan of the food at the campus as it was only open until 8 and we genrally did not leave the show until 7. We used Kelly's bar across the road . They had basic, cheap food, very cold beer and beautiful waiting staff! S...

Saw the F-22 display at Oshkosh and it was great, although they have less restrictive rules. Mind you it wasn't a patch on the massive beat up when the F-22's arrived on the sunday and did about 5 missed approaches, that was awsome!

This seems to happen every few years and its not a first. They go over to a manual system of paper flight strips but that has a limited capacity. I remember c 2010 one day at Farnborough they had massive delays due similar ATC issue and alot of people who thought they were important suddenley found ...

Oshkosh 23 selection-updated
Back a few weeks from this amazing place so I thought I would share a selection from here that others may not share. I don't genrally bother with the flying stuff as I do not have the kit. It was pretty hot, well compared to Friday at RIAT it was tropical! You have almost total freedom to roam the p...

Most of all I wish for the sort of display restrictions I saw at Oshkosh last week. Or lack of restrictions, approaching crowd rear is fine as long as above 500ft and straight and level, even if that is 2 F-18 and 2 Corsairs in formation. Runs down the runway so low they are obscured by the crowd wh...

Re: RIAT 2023 Live Arrivals
Nice set, from a reg spotters point of view quite a few aircraft new to RIAT. German Tornados new to me, my last RAF Prefect is nice, many of the Saudi Hawks aircraft are diffrent from last visit, the KC-135 was on deployment at Fairford with the USAF in 1989! Only thing I saw the the Italian A169 a...
