Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

[quote="BossMann"]I guess you are right, the RAF continued to hold airshows at RAF Finingley until 1994 when the base physically closed its doors and the organisers made the swift move to RAF Waddington so in theory RAFCTE could still use Scampton until its doors close in 2022.... but it m...

But the point is, I can't help but think the hiding the show took from websites like this in some ways contributed to its demise. It certainly didn't help. I guess BossMann's enthusiasm is the opposite. Maybe it will make a difference, maybe not - but I can't see that it will cause any harm; and it...

Re: Bye Bye Scampton?

The obvious new location for the Reds would have to be RAF Valley, as the T1 airframes are maintaintained there and the Reds regularly visit to use the T1 simulators. So using MoD logic, RAF Valley will be at the bottom of the list of alternatives. Nonwithstanding the maintenance facilities there, ...

To close by '2022' apparently - the real reason why the airshow was pulled is maybe becoming clearer. Does not look good establishing a successful airshow on a base that is going to close.

Merely an illustration on the information releases as the RAF want to keep the '100' secret until it is officially unveiled.

The surge in ticket sales since it has been announced suggests it more than has a place at OW, it's certainly persuaded me to attend. Though to be fair that surge consists of 90% of the greater population of central Lincolnshire.... Well , we don't get out that often, Bedfordshire is almost the equ...

Re: May 6th - Season Premiere & RAF centenary

With the Typhoon at 2pm and Lancaster at 2.25pm - Could we get a chance of a flypast with both together?? Fingers crossed Not unless the RAF have rehearsed it, and it's been signed off in triplicate. And even then they'd only be allowed to roughly be in the same hemisphere. The Typhoon really has n...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

Scampton suffered from horrific PR, and by not having a clear idea of what it wanted to be. It could have been "RIAT of the north" and a genuine successor to the Waddington airshows, but a bad choice of date, lazy choices of aircraft bookings and extortionate prices for what was a seaside...

Re: 12 Squadron to become a Typhoon squadron

Would be good to see 74 Sqn operational again - having brought the F4J back from the States in 1984 and subsequently operated the type on the Sqn. Unlikely. I'm guessing 9 sdn will be in pole position if it does not become the 'possible' second F35 sdn. Failing that 19 sdn seems to be the number be...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

Can't believe all the discussion. Simple summary of 2017: 1. Ticket prices were too high, in so far as they did not offer value for money when comparing the flying display to other alternatives; 2. The quality of the flying display was poor. This had nothing to do with a lack of effort from DBH - i...

That is correct. I have no desire to pay nearly £40 for a seaside show line up. At least Ten pounds overpriced for what is offered. Such a shame as this could have been the start of a really good new venue, It's almost of if it's been set up to to fail.
