Re: An-225 (and others) at Prestwick 2 Aug 2020

Like the take off shots Euan. It was well worth the trip over, but as you say, it was packed. I stayed at the mound. I would have liked to have gone to the bridge for the take off, but feared it would have been impossible to get parked there and in position in time. From pictures when it arrived it...

An-225 (and others) at Prestwick 2 Aug 2020

First for me today seeing the fantastic An-225 at Prestwick. Lucky timing with a weekend date and only stopping for a fuel stop. Never seen the place so busy and that was me avoiding the mound. Included a couple of other visitors (including the C-17 but didn't want to create a separate thread just f...

Re: Trees or aircraft?

Not sure the topic title needs changing, this is exactly the issue that has stymied the plans. I read the NMS director's comments that these airframe may be lost if this project didn't go ahead. He has had these artefacts in his care for a number of years and not even a paintbrush has been applied ...

Re: Trees or aircraft?

I would be interested to know why the existing hangars and surrounding area is a "Scheduled Monument" Anybody with local knowledge know why East Fortune is listed as such, it sounds very grand, but expect it has little relevance, from photographs most of the building appear to be post war...

Re: Trees or aircraft?

Ok sitting with a nice cup of tea. Let me begin by first saying I have sadly never visited East Fortune but I wish them well with their expansion plans and desire to get more aircraft under cover. May I suggest that the expansion should also provide space for improved restoration workshops and allo...

Re: Trees or aircraft?

Just read the first section of the full Report and it looks like the current Military hangar will be WWI and WWII and the main hanger will be "Cold War and Beyond".

Cafe will also move to the new building.

Re: Trees or aircraft?

Interesting to see this finally moving forward - this has been proposed for the last 10-15 years. Plan was always to build new hangars off-site due to the restrictions placed on the current site. If anyone's interest all documents (51 of them) available on East Lothian councils planning web-site inc...

Damp and Dull East Fortune

Yet again East Fortune fell foul of the weather gods on Saturday. Forecast wasn't great to start with but since I'd got a complimentary ticket I thought I'd venture through anyway. Arrived just before 10 and there was already quite a queue to get in. I decided to avoid the rain and sat in the car fo...

Flying Legends 2019 - Saturday 13th July

Made it down to Duxford on Saturday for Flying Legends. Already given my thoughts on the display on the thread for the airshow. Highlights were the Buchons, Ultimate Fighters and the BoB piece (but really needed at least one Hurricane in there too!). These were taken from the top of the hill at the ...

Re: Flying Legends 2019

Got to agree with most of the posts - good day out but certainly left feeling disappointed. Arrived at the West car park about half 7 and it was beginning to bet busy already. Started letting cars in about 7:50 but was disappointed to see that they were only letting camper vans and (presumably) blue...

Couple of nice additions in todays email adding a Yak-3, T-6, T-33 and Mig-15 to the line-up.

Top post updated with full list - other additions seem to include the Catalina and Corsair.

Stunning restoration inside and out. Whereas Placid Lassie had what looked like rows of seats out an old 737 or similar. Didn't fancy the thought of a 10 3/4 hour flight in that like they did!

Daks over Prestwick - Friday evening

Fantastic evening on Friday at Prestwick. First evening/night event for me so a bit of a steep learning curve. One important lesson I learnt for next time was hat and gloves are essential regardless of the time of year! At first it was clear the main floodlights weren't doing much, but credit to the...

Looks like a great show, nice photos too That Twin Mustang though! Does indeed look like a cracking event. I think the Twin Mustang must be a but Marmite, cos for me it's more Don't know why, perhaps it's just too much! Really is a stunner. One interesting thing I noticed was the fuselage size. The...

Sun 'n Fun 2019 - Saturday 6th April

Fortunate timing with a family holiday in Orlando meant I was able to attend the Saturday of Sun 'n Fun at Lakeland Linder International Airport. Highlight for me was the XP-82 which was my first port of call! They were preparing to move it when I was there and discovered it was going up for a coupl...

What a fantastic tribute to the crew of Mi Amigo, and to Tony's selfless efforts to make sure they are remembered. Well done to the RAF and USAF for getting behind this and highlighting the crews from the U.S. who gave their life's flying from this country during WWII. Not sure if they've done anyth...
