Re: Weather forecast

Well, I spent the weekend down at Fairford (actually staying at the Crown of Crucis hotel on Saturday night) and it was rather cloudy until about 2pm before clearing quite nicely on the Sat. There was some evening and overnight rain - but nothing too drastic and Sunday was perfect weather for an air...

Re: RIAT 2019 weather watch.

Not sure what happened to the thundery showers and sunshine due from 12/1pm to 3/4pm, which the BBC website seemed to be forecasting early in the day. Just rain, heavy rain and then a grey gloom for most of the day. I left at 3pm as more rain fell - but I'm attending all days except Sunday [includin...

Re: Best route

I use the A429, then the A424 from Stow, the A361 from Burford and and the A417 thereafter - a well-known route from the South Midlands area, although other options exist. There is a handy short Alternative Route in Lechlade itself - especially useful on the weekend show days (both entering and leav...

Re: RIAT 2019 weather watch.

Looking at the latest BBC weather forecast, its only really after 3pm on the Friday and around 10-11am (possibly later) on the Saturday that's looking dodgy, and even then the chance of rain (the % given) is relatively low. 'Drizzle' on Saturday morning sounds a bit grim - but the cloud base is more...

Re: Arrivals

Yellow weather warnings for today and saturday in Birmingham. Very poor weather today . Been hiising it down all day. Lets hope it blows over for Sunday. But it looks terrible at the moment. The forecast on the BBC website for Sunday looks pretty-good now, that day surrounded by rather damp days be...

Re: Worst Airshow

The last Mildenhall was very poor by their standards, I remember the criticism levelled at it on here. The traffic was appalling, never had problems like it at Mildenhall before. The show started an hour earlier than published, was in the middle of the village when it started. Had to park in an ind...

Re: Worst Airshow

Checking my notes, was Upper Heyford 6th May 1990,very hot, traffic was awful ( Bank Holiday ) and nowhere near enough flying ! Having said that quite a few Biggin Hill shows have been dire, usually due to weather ! I went to the last few Sky Pageants at Upper Heyford (1987 onwards) and they did tend ...

Re: Worst Airshow

No mention of the year 2000; a rotten year weather wise for RIAT (at Cottesmore) and at the Air Fete at Mildenhall. The weather gods revenge for the generally good weather of the 90s (certainly at Fairford). I drove along the M69 towards Leicestershire thinking the cloud and drizzle would naturally ...

Re: Worst Airshow

I seem to recall a very cloudy and damp Yeovilton show about ten years ago, possibly less (c.2009-11) where very little flew - bar helicopters and the Royal Jordanian Falcons! The Vulcan went tech in the afternoon, but probably wouldn't have flown anyway due to the cloud base - cue hoards of people ...

Re: Farnborough International Airshow 2018

I read the previous messages with interest - I first went to one of the public days in 1996 I think, remaining loyal until 2004 (I was busy in 2006 and opted out of 2008). I went one further time in 2010 and that was that, it just wasn't worth the time and expense. A long journey (Coventry to Hampsh...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Quick question for anyone monitoring the tower at departures yesterday - who went where they shouldn't, when we ended up with 5 aircraft facing both directions on the runway with the C17 playing piggy in the middle? We did see two Italian Typhoons facing west at the 27 end, with other aircraft on t...

Re: Red route shambles - came home.

Park & View East (Tues to Thurs) plus two days inside the showground [having a rest Sunday] has meant parking at the 'Red end' every time - virtually no queuing at any point! I always approach from Lechlade, using the Alternative Route off the A361 (Hambidge Lane etc) on the show days reaching h...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Well where do I start? Wow what a day... best RIAT I've been to hands down despite feeling a tad unwell beforehand due to stress. Was nice to get a fast pass from the Tonka one last time, and an F35 to hover. Oh and the B2, which since I had no data only realised during the Chinook display and then...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Well , the Frecce today . Awesome. . When they can do their high show, in my opinion they are the best in the world. The early evening light adds so much atmosphere too. Just perfect. Did they do the 9 ship cross over?? Didn't yesterday.. When you say 9 ship cross over is that the one after the spl...

Re: A429 night closure

There is the A3400/A361 diversion - but it is possible to use the A46 (from J15 M40 Longbridge) all the way south to the A44 (for Broadway Tower) follow that then take up the A424 to Stow-on-the-Wold. That misses out quite a large chunk of the A429. Admittedly it does take you a bit further west tha...

Re: RIAT 2018 Arrivals

Not so much starting proceedings on a Tues - the expanded Friday is a bit more of a drain. I quite liked the easier-paced and more relaxed Friday 'half show' - and then a wander round the static before heading out. Now its up early and not leaving until 6pm-ish assuming one stays for the entire disp...

I've got visions of Mildenhall 2000 (the Saturday) with those torrential downpours! I was dry at the end of the day mind-you.

Re: RIAT 2018 Arrivals

Massive shame about the Atlantique - do we know why they cancelled? The practice display yesterday was really good! Looking forward to tomorrow, should hopefully be a very busy day! The Atlantique display was more interesting than the rather tame C-27J display of today [Weds] - odd that an aircraft...

Re: Weather

Met Office forecast for Friday seems to be changing, now only a 40% chance of rain from 4pm onwards. My main concern now is the forecasted gusts of wind speed of up to 16mph (14 knots) that seem to indicate runway 09 will be used? Quick question: if runway 09 is used will the display still happen o...

Re: RIAT 2018 Arrivals

Regards the Friday display - will this be like Sat & Sun, so full to brimming with people and a full static line? Or is this the normal 'half-attendance' with the western end sealed off? Do we need to get there at a mad early time.
