Re: Thoughts on the show (Merged)
I've somewhat reluctantly trimmed airshows from my budget since Biggin died and took much of my enthusiasm with it. But I do keep an eye on things via you guys and I just thought I'd say that IMO Farnborough took a calculated gamble on the Russians turning up. Let's face it, if they'd displayed it w...

I don't like "me too" threads, but sometimes you have to make an exception. Terrible news. The Reds inspire so many, and never fail to lift even my grumpy, middle aged spirits when I see them fly.

Just stunning. Absolutely amazing shots from start to finish. This thread is going onto my bookmark list to show people when they ask "why do you go to so many airshows?"

Thanks for the reassuring replies. I feel marginally less depressed now. Which means I'm now only about fifteen times more gloomy than Marvin the paranoid android. :-> The trouble for me is that it's out there in the 'wild', whether that's an unexpected aircraft, bird, fox, or whatever, that's where...

For three years I've been keeping an occasional eye on a local heron. Well, when I say local, it takes me an hour to walk there. But on a day like today that's no hardship. Here he is earlier on, standing just across the river, waiting for me to b*gger off. Unless he's a she. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_X...

Interesting set, and a lovely Vulcan underside shot. Really wonderful lighting, with a bit of vapour to top it off. It's a real 'Dan Dare' shot... more spaceship than aircraft.
To me anyway.

Re: Canon 60D + new Glass
I thought the 50D was a pointless step from the 40D but this is just plain stupid. As someone who actually wants a camera with video (for those moments when only a clip will do) and was quite excited about the prospect of an articulated screen (something I really liked on a Canon S1) I think Canon ...

Stunning images. What kit were you using for these? Just a 40D & 100-400L. Nothing special (around here anyway! ) While I'm at it, apologies to the mods for parking this in the wrong section originally. My reasoning was that it wasn't a post about the aircraft, it was about the vapour trail... ...

cheers mate i wasnt aware that we got those over here, that would explain the colouring! There's one down in the Eynsford/Lullingstone valley a few miles away from me. Unless you have expensive (f2.8ish) prime glass I'm not sure it's a wise investment. I bought a x1.4 and tried all the pin taping and AF tricks recommended by various people when trying it with the 100-400L. But although it was an interesting experiment, in practice the AF hit rate plummets, and the...

I haven't had much of a chance to try it out yet, but there were a few passing seagulls, and I have to say the AF is an absolute revelation. Almost worth the money, eh? It is an impressive step up after living in Pentax screwdrive land. I left my 100-400L on the 40D all the time when I got mine, fo...

Re: Canon 60D Pictures - The Tilt Screen is here.
Like lots of camera features, you don't realize how useful it is until you use it then wonder how you got by without it. I can see it being useful for macro and close-up work. Agree 100%. I had a Canon S1 bridge camera for a long time, with a fully articulated screen. I didn't expect to use that fe...

Lovely lighting on the first Vulcan. The rest aren't bad either. The first shot is nearly my favourite because of the satisfying cloudscape. But my levelometer keeps nagging at me while I'm looking at it. Either my sense of balance is a bit off or it could do with a slight tweak... though I hate rot...

Re: Another wobbly Pentaxian
If I'm honest, Pentax's breed of DSLRs just don't cut the mustard when it comes to action or sports photography. Sadly I think that's still true Martin. It's a relatively niche need, and people who take 'run of the mill' action shots (kids, the occasional bird, or whatever) will never really have t...

Welcome to the PTC (Pentax Traitors Club). Your membership is in the post. I am thinking of a Canon 50D or 550D with the 100-400 L IS USM, which would cover the focal lengths of most of my pictures. My choice was between the D300 and the 40D. The D300 was what I wanted but a combination of the fact ...

Re: Pentax Digi SLR
Can you switch the image stabilisation off? On the K100D there's a switch on the back. I haven't checked but I can't imagine them removing such a feature. I am getting the impression that I have to manually focus it, if you don't use the "A" setting. There's no reason to move it from A. E...

I've been a Pentax user since 1984 when I started off with a Pentax ME Super. That was exactly my story too! Couldn't afford an OM4 (who could? ) but the ME Super was what I bought myself with the insurance policy my mother had taken out to mature on my 21st birthday in 84 (after I killed my Prakti...
