Re: Duxford September Airshow 2016- 10th and 11th September

I asked this before, but it got lost in the noise... I was wondering what Friday before this show is likely to be like in terms of practice displays, arrivals, general warbird activity? I've been to the Friday before Legends for years, but never before any another show. Just wondering whether it's ...

Re: Skies above Britain - BBC 2 now

Topics merged I thought the show on the whole was excellent. They did concentrate a little bit on crashes at the beginning ( the Bremont guy commenting once was always looking for a safe place to crash whilst flying ) but considering this episode was about dangers in the sky (congestion, crashes, t...

Re: RAF Marham Police advice

What rights, if any, do the RAF police have over a civilian standing on private (i.e. not MOD) land? If the person declines to move what, if anything, can they do? Obviously that is a completely separate question to what is wise, sensible or prudent behaviour particularly in the current climate. I'...

Re: Shuttleworth Edwardian Pageant- August 7th 2016

Thanks. What sort of size? Big, really big! Think I heard someone say 1/3rd scale, but don't quote me on that! Interesting thanks. I am a regular attender at OW but couldn't go on this occasion. Also heavily involved in model flying and a member of the LMA but I wasn't aware that there was to be an...

Re: Shuttleworth Edwardian Pageant- August 7th 2016

Model aircraft just crashed about 20ft from the crowd line and just next to the Gladiator Didn't see exactly what happened but it was been blown around in the wind a bit. Was the model part of the display? Yes, it was. I guess they were trying to fill the slots left due to the high winds. It was a ...

I seem to remember an aerobatic competition at Duxford being cancelled for similar reasons and at equally short notice a few years back.

Re: No access to the "Tank Bank"?

Losing the Tank Bank is like the Globe nailing a roof on. The character of the venue is lost forever and changed for the worse. I might not care much for shows inside Duxford, they don't give me, personally, what I require from an airshow experience, but I do believe the venue itself was perfectly ...

Re: Flying Legends & the Naughty Field(s)

My following comments are applicable to many air-shows, but in this case Duxford specific. If a Pilot can get to pick where he lands, it can't be so bad an issue that he couldn't land on the actual airfield at Duxford (Skyraider?)...NOT in the so-called 'Naughty-field' immediately adjacent?? If the...

Re: Flying Legends & the Naughty Field(s)

Playing Devil's advocate, you could extrapolate that to the hobby in general. Any pilot looking for a nearby field to put-down in is arguably going to be suffering from a mechanical failure rather than being out of control or misjudging aerobatics, so what's the distinction between people being in ...

Re: Flying Legends & the Naughty Field(s)

One other thing I can never understand is what happened to disclaimers. I used to go to events of all sorts that had printed on the ticket that the organisers were in no way responsible for any injury or death. How did we reach a point where someone has to be responsible? I would be more than happy...

Re: Flying Legends & the Naughty Field(s)

The gist of the conversation I had was that if people congregate in the fields to the South (the naughty field), East of the M11, or West of the airfield the CAA have warned that they will insist that flying ceases until such time as these areas are cleared. There were people in fields/lining roads...

potential (adj) "having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future" I would say that an aircraft being restored in a way that the CAA require changes that, for the owner, are so costly he cannot carry on would imply they are serious enough to match the definition of &...

Very strange but interesting comparison to last week's Duxford show here. Re: Advance Ticket Sales Good idea or not?

I have just received a letter from Shuttleworth about advanced ticket sales. Although it says that it is not their policy to change to advanced ticket only (unless sold out) it stresses that they now have to comply with a "strict limit on numbers". I wonder therefore if Duxford's capacity ...

Shuttleworth capacity and booking

I have just received a letter sent to SVAS members by the Shuttleworth Trustees regarding booking airshow tickets. Although it says it is not their policy to become advance ticket only (like Duxford) it stresses that no tickets will be reserved for members at the gate if the "strict" maxim...

Re: Advance Ticket Sales Good idea or not?

That point re the scanners makes perfect sense, obviously the ticket sheds are temp, they would need a wireless connection via the Tank Hall to have real time access to ticekts purchased a few mins ago, I had not thought of that issue. Most ticketing companies have their own 4G connections that the...

"All-ticket puts the balance of power in the organiser's hands," Its a very interesting debate re business models, the basic concept has to be that you can get some where near a sell out and then punters will be afraid of a sell out and then be forced into making a decision without info r...

Re: Poll: Reasons why you chose to give Duxford a miss

I'm not sure how many more times this has to be spelled out, the greatly reduced numbers were directly caused by the advance ticket policy. Do you have any hard evidence to back up what you have "spelled out"? You may be right, but as I have said previously I do not think it is quite as s...

Re: Poll: Reasons why you chose to give Duxford a miss

At the risk of summoning the fury of the forum and particularly the members who have obviously voted on this poll, I'd like to suggest that another reason why people stay away from Duxford is because they might run into Dan Hagen and co, who appear to be the most miserable 'enthusiasts' imaginable,...
