Re: Duxford Air Festival 2018

this is the case, the flying list only came with the programme. i was in the members enclosure and there was nothing there which i thought was a bit off. there was a very obvious "we need to milk as much money" vibe there this year. i don't know if it's related, but when i spoke to one of...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Likewise the hangar practices that saw a silica gel bag left in the intake - how and why, and by whom (the identity of the person responsible on the day has, to my knowledge, yet to make it into the public arena) was such a mistake made? The polar opposite of "reasonable care and skill" i...

Re: Duxford Air Festival 2018

The Rafale, oh it was there was it? I heard it, occasionally saw it when it remembered to fly actually over the airfield. Utter nonsense! No it's not. I've never ever at any air show seen aircraft displayed in the far distance like this. Even at RIAT last year, they managed to display to people who...

Re: Duxford Air Festival 2018

From what I heard over the PA then Rafale is around 1330 with PdF a couple of displays after that. So have the PdF been brought forward (maybe because of weather forecast)? The Notam shows the schedule for their 6NM restricted area as 1550 to 1640 UTC so 1650 to 1740 local which would suggest the d...

And I also agree the Rafale display was very distant at times, Really? I was sitting on the bank leading up to the Land Warfare Hall entrance and the Rafale seemed to centre its display right in front of us. That was probably the reason why it felt distant to others, then? Feel like you've answered...

Given that Duxford is open to paying visitors and attaracts far more of them than normal on a "pre air show / practice day" it is a pretty fine distinction!

Re: Ryanair fiasco

Another 18,000 flights cancelled for the winter period, effecting apparently 400,000 passengers. But that's only 22 per flight. Surely that can't be right? Can it? Quite possibly if that is the number of people booked so far. Many of the seats would be sold nearer the time so those people are not a...

Don't suppose any one remembers the Canadian Lancaster visit when the museum car parks were full by 9AM and there was grid lock all day on the local roads and M11 from people trying to get in. Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Is there any realistic prospect of 558 flying again? I mean not in the UK, obviously, but as a more palatable alternative to Dan's rather apocalyptic 'chop up the airframe' mantra, is there any chance that it could be operated in the US, for example, where it would be sure to be an enormous hit on ...

Re: Flying Legends 2017

You do have to wonder about the viability of Duxford as a venue. I said after Shoreham that surely it couldn't continue, and I know that North Weald abandoned their plans to host a proper airshow again in the immediate aftermath because of the M11. On the face of it, Cosford closed 18 roads I think...
