Re: UKAR Desert Island Discs

Strewth this is difficult, so many good bands and songs to leave out and my favourites change all the time. All of these would be live versions (apart from The Stone Roses possibly!). Some fantastic choices so far: 1. Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones 2. She's a Superstar - Verve 3. Rez/Co...

Re: What are UKARians watching on TV?

Finally got around to watching the last season of The Americans. Highly recommended, and they finished it off superbly. The last season of Bates Motel wasn't as good as previous ones but still worth a look. Just started The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. The "live" episode of Inside No...

Re: Rabbiting Chris Evans!

I station-hop a lot in the UK, but mainly listen to 6 Music. Radio 2 has been awful for years, with the honourable exception of Popmaster! Steve Wright must have the worst taste in music of any DJ I've ever heard.

Re: Tornado swing wing question

The keyway and slot arrangement between the pylon and wing housing should make it idiot-proof, but.....! I guess the performance of the jet in the air would also tell you if they were not straight aligned. Fuel burn etc. Not fuel burn, maybe buffeting/airframe vibration. More likely somebody on the ...

try Blue Cheer's version of 'Summertime Blues'

I have, it's brilliant.

LSO did some 'classic rock' albums in the 80's

1978, on good old K-Tel records. I played the first one to death - Life on Mars and Paint it Black were the highlights for me!

Re: The Angry Thread...

In my mind the main cause of this was the removal of the link of wages v house prices some time c2000, and particularly since 2009. This is always overlooked when talking about the housing crisis. Along with the sale of council houses, which was grossly unfair in my opinion, this was a major factor...

Re: The Angry Thread...

Surely you're not suggesting they compete with Sky for cricket and F1? There's a hell of a lot of BBC bashing on the forums, but I happily pay the licence fee for what I consider a great service. As well as the domestic services, things like iPlayer and BBC World are lifesavers for ex-pats around th...

Re: Top 5s of 2017

Not a great year for movies, I thought Guardians 2 was awful (I've had enough of the Marvel films to be honest), but I enjoyed Baby Driver, It, Dunkirk and The Last Jedi. Plenty of good TV - Last Man on Earth, Mindhunter, Detectorists, Professor T, Line of Duty, Last Week Tonight, The Good Place, Bl...

Re: What are UKARians watching on TV?

Some great shout in here (Detectorists, Last Man on Earth). I've just binge watched Mindhunter on netflix about the early work done by the FBI on understanding serial killers. Great series. My wife and I loved Professor T, and the new series is available from Friday on all4.

Re: BBMF Grounded

If (God forbid) we were at war big time now and a fault was found with a Typhoon engine, I wonder what would happen? But we're on operations now and have been for decades. Do you think the RAF are bodging Tornados and Typhoons to get them in the air? We're in a state where commanders on the ground ...

Re: BBMF Grounded

You've got to check them all. Got to disagree with you there. Only certain types of failure will invoke a fleet check. Both one-off and repetitive failures are routinely repaired without the need to check the entire fleet for the same fault. There are many components which are known to be liable to...

Re: BBMF Grounded

Could be one of many reasons Craig. Fuel or oil contamination from a particular batch or supplier, only certain part numbers/modification standards of engine affected, a quality failing (material, parts or process) from the BBMF or BBMF-only subcontractor. It happens regularly in both the civilian a...

Re: Foo fighters best ever headline act at Glastonbury?

U2 have never headlined have they? Yes, in 2011. The Killers were superb. I think Foals or Biffy Clyro would be excellent headliners, but to me the smaller stages are better anyway. Once the venue gets above a couple of thousand people you're just staring at a sea of phones, other people's heads or...

Re: Foo fighters best ever headline act at Glastonbury?

Dull and monotonous? Did you even watch their set?

Yes. Well I fast forwarded through most of it then gave up. I've never been a huge fan of theirs but I always watch the Glastonbury coverage. I would never listen to a Beyonce or Metallica album but their sets were fantastic.
