Presume that may be the end of the '200 that's there, as it's getting a bit tatty now.

Re: Catalina loch Ness difficulties

How/where are they going to do that I wonder given, the lack of any slipway or beaching options on Loch Ness, which is why they attempted the single engine take-off in the first place, as quoted by the crew chief up there on his post on WIX as follows: It was felt to be very important to at least t...

Duxford October Showcase

A few from what (I think) was the last air display of the year. Re: Duxford Showcase Days 2020

Today was the first time I had watched from the Tank Bank. I can see why some people are upset it is roped off for normal displays. As said above, decent period of flying which dodged the weather pretty well. Shame the Bell 47 didn't really come up the western end, but you can't win them all. Andy -...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

Why is the LNER incorrect? the loco was built in 1923 25 years before BR existed. Talking of incorrect liveries I got into trouble many years ago when the lab manager brought his beautiful OO LMS liveried Royal Scot model in, I said "you can't run that as an authentic LMS period loco as it's g...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

Others have been scrapped on site at Cardiff before, so it's not out of the realms of possibility they will not fly again. May also be linked to why Negus was preserved, as that was the only one since the announcement that they were being retired that has had to fly.

I have a photo of it giving out smoke from the Duxford September show in 2016, have a feeling that it was that year it was first fitted.

Headcorn BoB Airshow 2020 - Sunday

As Blackbird has already said on another thread, conditions were far from ideal. ISO was sky high and shutter speeds were right down, so I didn't come away with much worth showing, but here are a few. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50401596498_16cbdbc29b_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/6553...

Re: Aero Legends 80th Anniversary Battle of Britain Airshow

Went yesterday, all seemed fairly well organised, most people seemed to understand the box rules, and everyone I saw that had to move on did it without fuss when politely asked to. Hats off to all the pilots, especially the Stampes, for flying in those conditions. Also liked that they just sent all ...

How much of the advertised display managed to take part? Weather is looking similar (wind wise) tomorrow so interested to know how much of a display was managed.

Re: Covid casualties - British Airways B.747s at Kemble

Negus aircraft still at LHR. Of the 3 retro's, the BOAC one has the best chance (though still not a very good one) of further work, being one of the youngest in the fleet. Landor is the oldest one that was still in BA service, with the Negus one not far behind. The RR engines are probably more of a ...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

I'd hazard a guess that most of them will be scrapped where they are now (Kemble, Teruel, Cardiff*) with the exception of the Heathrow ones which will gradually be returned to airworthiness and flown out over the next few weeks. *Some of these may go elsewhere for scrap due to the large number of th...

Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)

I must say, today was brilliant. Organisation was spot on, so congrats to all at shuttleworth for putting on a great event. I arrived at half 10 and was at the front of the fourth (!) row of the holding field. When parked, I was positioned a few rows back from where I would normally sit (on the bend...

From the advert:

You will have previous experience of working with this model of plane and be able to operate on your own skills without user manuals

If it's a commercial venture, I can't see the CAA being too happy about that!

Re: Not The Way To Social Distance at Airports

Fair play to the person who jumped out then tried to stop the moving aircraft once in full 'flight'. Sorry, but he's a bit of a muppet. Once an aircraft starts going like that, there's no stopping it apart from applying the brakes. Chocks will only slow it down as it would just jump them. All he (a...

Re: Boris Force One?

The aircraft is in for its scheduled maintenance overhaul which will require a complete strip and repaint, the cost is a total of £900,000 all in, it has already been budgeted for and is inline with planned works. All the BS about just the paint being £900,000 is just the press making the weak of m...

Re: Boris Force One?

The cost may well be quoted to be £900,000, however ALL aircraft must undergo a full repaint every X number of years. (Figure varies, generally every 5 to 10 years). So this one is probably due a respray anyway. The figure we really need is how much extra this is going to cost, compared to painting ...

Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to just lease a BA jet since it'll probably look basically the same?
A BA jet (& crew) may not always be available (not an issue at the minute though!). I'd also expect a certain Mr Branson to be up in arms about it as well.
