Re: Biggin Hill Festival of Flight 2017

Another excellent set from BH. Love the ageing paintwork on the French air force Hercules; whereas the Spits of the Heritage Hangar seem extraordinarily pristine. Great show, every single display made it count.

Re: My Biggin

More super shots... seems everyone was on form for Biggin Hill. Bronco pic reminds me, what's that smoke all about, streaming from the port engine on certain maneouvres? No one looked bothered so I guess it's fine...

Great shots, there. Any more of the Patrouille? The flying all day was superb but their routine was as good as anything I've seen in the display team field.

Re: Lakeside P&V

Noticed a sign for "Lakeside" P&V this year, haven't seen that in the past. Does anyone know where it is? I too noticed that sign on my way back from Totterdown.I could be wrong but it might be Rhymes using a different name as they have a lake which is further back from their old park...

Re: Is Totterdown bad for RIAT

Interesting discussion. I pay most years for RIAT but have also watched from Totterdown, Rhymes and east end of runway. As a complete hypocrite I think it's absolutely right that Rhymes has been closed - purely on safety grounds. The crowds there in 2015 were such that the emergency gate was blocked...

Re: RIAT 2017 (Discussion & Participation Thread)

Only made it on Saturday. Hugely enjoyable. BBMF were superb... the Lanc leading the formation through tricky turns in that wind. I wish the RAF would display more fast jets, but we have to remember what a bonus it is to have the BBMF. All the flying was gob-smacking, shame the Hornet and F-22 could...

Re: Thunderbirds opinions

I enjoyed their display. As a lot of people have said, they are not choreographed in the same way as the Reds, Freece or Patrouille but perform a series of set-pieces with some very spectacular moments. I thought the Reds were outstanding in the low cloud of Saturday and I have to say I prefer that ...

Re: Biggin Hill FoF (few more added)

These are really interesting shots. I thought the light later on was quite interesting with bright weather to the west and heavy clouds to the east. I haven't got a big lens but I was quite pleased with one or two shots of the Reds with landscape/cloudscape in them. But not only am I hugely impresse...

Re: Biggin Hill FoF

Excellent set. The Blenheim's an art deco masterpiece! Strange day weatherwise, I honestly thought it would be a washout from 2pm onwards but miracles happen, just in time for the BBMF and the Reds. An excellent show, low key according to the old days but still very enjoyable.

Re: UKAR's Top 10 UK 'Airshow Moments' of 2015

Fine choices and some great background info on the French Navy's superb contribution to Yeovilton. Often, the story behind the display can really make the display itself all the more special and this was one of those cases. Like others here I would have included Ramex Delta's Mirages among the displ...

Re: Airstrikes in Syria - UKAR's Thoughts?

Many good points here on both sides - a very good level of debate with no abuse which is great to see. Personally I can't really make up my mind (the privilege of the armchair air marshall!) though I thought the best points were made in the debate by Margaret Beckett and Tim Farron, and the best ora...

Re: The BBC2 RAF Display programmes

I too was put off by the narration initially, but actually, once the hyperbole was out of the way, the programmes have each been revealing and interesting with some great, great shots. I've really enjoyed them. Personally, I'm always surprised by how the Reds manage to perform in fairly foul weather...

Re: Soggy Saturday at Dunsfold

Great pix there - I can't get enough of the synchro pair, they are tremendous. I thought it was a brilliant show given the conditions... fully expected some cancellations but I guess despite the rain the cloud base stayed fairly high. Even so I sadly missed the Spit and Mustang due to being increasi...
