Looking at the OS map there are less than 2 sq km between the runway and the former canal (which is slowly being restored) so not a lot of room
There's not a lot of viable land North of the airfield either because of a fairly large farm (on a hill) so I imagine the whole site will be flattened

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Unless it's been shelved there is a proposal to turn all of Dunsfold into a new village (whatever a village constitutes in terms of 1000s of houses) complete with a canal basin so it won't be a permanent home
but thanks for the heads-up I'll try to see it!

I can't believe BJ Gove etc are pulling the rug on further Brexit negotiations; do they really think the EU and especially the ROI are going to come begging us for lamb car parts fishing rights no Irish customs border etc at the last minute? when everyone in the real world is telling them no deal is...

I think the Welsh measures are also aimed at keeping English visitors (many from tier 3 areas) out over half term, the website make it very clear that it doesn't just affect residents it's anyone in the country during the period

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.
yes; most bacteria that enter the digestive system stay there most are friendly and required as part of general digestion (symbiosis, happens all over the animal / plant kingdoms) but some can still wreak havoc. Viruses can also have the same effect but generally can't get into the rest of the body ...

Firstly excuse my rusty haematology knowledge but Human immunity is generally governed by 2 white blood cell mechanisms; (this is different to a 3rd process phagocytosis which is what granulocytes- also white blood cells- do which is to attack the infection directly and is not really immunity; for e...

From War of the Worlds (in case anyone hasn't read / seen it the alien invaders eventually died of common human infections) very visionary! Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.
The virus's sole function is to spread; it has no compassion and doesn't even know or care who or what it's infecting. it's not really a living thing as it only exists and reproduces within another animal's own cells which is why i find it odd that those in power can suggest it's not being spread by...

One thing's for sure. Covid-19 is an extremely successful virus, it spreads like wildfire without killing many of those infected (or even taking them out of circulation through illness, so they can continue to spread it)

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.
Not sure about that; We've only actually had 2 global viral pandemics of the level of infection we are seeing now and the other was Spanish Flu 100 years ago when the science was in its infancy. The other 2 SARS epidemics were fortunately contained in small areas of the world, Are you saying influen...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.
I think the initial lockdown (albeit late) worked well and the majority of the UK bought into it and complied without the draconian measures seen in other parts of Europe (France Spain and Italy being examples where you got arrested and fined for being more than a certain distance from your home) As...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Tend to agree but I doubt the only reason G-CIVB was chosen was its livery. They have a Concorde in Chatham livery although not that accessible at the moment. There are BEA / BOAC / Landor liveries at Duxford IIRC There is one historically accurate Negus aircraft already in preservation, and an ina...

As a train enthusiast I know the importance of preserving examples of things in their correct liveries but there are so many diverse examples and only a few can be retained As someone that loves trains (not an enthusiast) I much preferred Flying Scotsman in its incorrect LNER livery than when I saw...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
Anyone know the reason the Negus scheme aircraft has been selected for preservation (if it happens)? I like retro schemes and these are very well done, but for a 747-400 in regular service, it would have been better saving one of the others at Kemble or the Landor if you really wanted a retro schem...

The BBC said 747s were likely to continue as freight aircraft for another 20 years.
Which airlines are still using them for passenger flights? (not including AirForceOne)?

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet
I saw them from the roundabout just by T5 entrance; fairly awful weather but got a nice rear view of the CIVJ. Thought I'd drive down to the hangar near Hatton X where I'd seen them a couple of weeks ago and on the way saw the 2nd one doing a low pass over the S Runway which I wasn't expecting but m...

Zoom, the question is what is the cost and what is the benefit. For reasons I can't fathom - it appears that Lockdowns have only a minor impact on respiratory viruses - these stats show only a minor reduction in all respiratory viruses after our lockdown was introducted: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peop...

Masks have made ordinary tasks impossible for huge swathes of people (deaf, autistic, mentally ill), and the evidence for their effectiveness (community cloth masks) is very poor. Our deputy chief medical officer said so herself. p.s. I do understand your concern, I have just seen so much suffering...

Expect PMBJ to follow FMNS with a 2 week indoor ban on alcohol in pubs etc, don't Scotland already have the "no mixing between households" ie not the rule of 6?

It's quite clear that just as we followed Italy Spain and France at the start of the European spread we are doing it all over again. This time however there is no total lockdown with bars / shops etc still all open

So see if I've got this right. You are simultaneously proposing to accept the "government hype" that at the peak there may have been 100,000 cases per day - when the NHS was emphatically not overwhelmed and Nightingale hospitals remained unused - while also suggesting that nobody in government has ...

You couldn't make it up; after Priti Patel's idea to send asylum seekers to Immigrant Island on St Helena (where I think it's also been demonstrated that the runway is unsuitable for international passenger flights) and it's only going to get worse after Brexit especially if France tears up the Le T...

Any kind of national lockdown would be suicide for the future of the country. It was reported today that tax could go up by 7p in the pound to pay for the crisis so far. Some people strangely just want to give more and more control to the government, in the belief they know what they are doing and ...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.
One thing's for sure there are very few false positive deaths. So the death rate across the world has been a consistent 1 / 33 of cases although we know cases cold be far higher than 33 million. Extrapolating that to 7 billion inhabitants in the world is over 200 million deaths. Given the uncertain...
