Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

it's good that the opposition parties have agreed a stance to oppose no deal but given that every single Parliamentary (real or indicative) vote to find an alternative to BoJo's DUKW over the cliff has failed; and the extreme polarisation that now exists, part of me thinks it just has to happen and...

Re: The D Day story

Or take a Portsmouth harbour tour and realise that the entire navy now consists of a few small frigates, a couple of broken destroyers and a carrier that has no aeroplanes... but perhaps not relevant to 1944? I agree that it's difficult to market things like this (which are presumably privately fun...

Thanks but I went to see the embroidery, the rest was a bonus. I know all about Slapton Sands and most of the other mistakes that happened before and after, no doubt I will found out more, not via the hands on stuff which I found a bit boring

The D Day story

This has probably been covered before but I only found out about it this year; There's a good pre-amble with some good exhibits but the Embroidery just blew me away! The official £3.50 guide does not do justice to the work (I don't think any photo can) so I bought a better book with some fantastic p...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

You actually had to go through passport control rather than just showing it at the UK boarding gate? that's odd because you don't need a passport to travel to Ireland unless you go on Ryanair

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

Nice bit of weasle-wording by PMBJ, though, in saying that 'under no circumstances will the UK put up checks and controls on the Irish border'. No mention of not doing so a few miles from the actual border, then there were some clowns on the radio this morning saying they didn't mind if the border ...

I think Merkel pulled a blinder; "tell us what you want instead of the Ireland backstop and we'll think about it after all it's half* your island with your half being the bit that's causing the problems, oh within 30 days too" (*ish) Tomorrow PMBJ will get "by the way you owe us £39bn...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

PMBJ really turning up the blame game now by saying it's all the fault of the EU (who didn't vote to leave) and the UK Parliament (who didn't vote for No Deal or for him) for not re-opening the WA; Of course he's also sure that without the backstop MPs will be queuing up to pass the WA, rather than ...

[quote but it's just Project Fear, right?] Of course it is......because PMBJ has made it quite clear that the EU has got to give us a new deal. Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

Going back to the point about Welsh lamb - just under 30% of UK lamb is exported to the EU. There is a very strong case to be made that the traditional hill side farming you associate with the lamb and sheep farming is not sustainable regardless of EU membership or not and that the land owners need...

and cheaper food imports from outside the EU will result in the "decimation of UK farming", a detailed study finds. Gives you a good idea of how much they have been overcharging us for the 40 years in the artificial market of the EEC/ EU then doesn't it. Britain has been importing food fr...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

the brexiters won't be wrong. if it goes tits up it will be the EU's fault, then remainers fault for not believing enough and trying to disrupt the process, then probably the WTO's fault for being undemocratic. so 3 years later we are back to Square One, leaving with no idea how; and ventriloquist's dummy Gove now says it's the EU's fault for refusing to budge from the final deal that he voted for and that they said was final before he or Bozo stood for PM. But Tories are good at blaming everyone else (inc...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

I liked the Boris blimp complete with a tshirt featuring one of his own buses emblazened with £350m. A fairly astute follower of Brexit (Anand Menon) has pointed out that there is no time left to get any form of deal (including the necessary bills to actually enable it) through Parliament before Oct...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

It’s my understanding that the only option open to Parliament is Withdraw Article 50. It’s the only option that the U.K. can take unilaterally. Parliament can stamp its feet and say what it likes, it can demand Boris goes to the EU for an extension. If they say Non or Nein then we leave No Deal no ...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

is it just me or have I missed something? BoJo may prorogue Parliament so he can get his no deal exit through.... but why? Apart from triggering Article 50 Parliament has failed to agree on any course of action out of this mess, May's deal, No Deal, 2nd referendum or revoke Article 50. So not sure w...
