A330 out in the sun

Boscombe Down is closed over the bank holiday, so as long as you stay above 2500ft it's quite ok to fly over the top.... and if you do, you might see one of these...

A wonderful set of pictures, that brought back lots of memories. Greenham looks like this now. Two things I have to take issue with here.. the Chief Petty Officer aka 'Fleet Chief' was a class act CPO and Fleet Chief Petty Officer were two different ranks (Fleet Chief is now WO1) When Eagle was Decomissioned she had upwards of 20 years left in her Hull and Machinery where as Ark Royal was Con...

Nice pics Rob, but I'd be hard pressed to ever call a Comper Swift "lovely"

Yes, two very nice pictures, thanks Rob. I have no qualms calling the Swift "lovely" though.... cos I think it is  (each to his own etc etc)

I shall be there on Sunday

Nice Pics. Thanks for sharing. They also give some idea of the damage caused by Thursday's storm

The F/A18 is painted in one of the many "commemorative" schemes as the USN is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Naval Aviation ( the RNs was a couple of years ago  )

Hi Mark, I guess you qualify for one of the " I survived Sun n Fun 2011" T shirts! (though $25 was a bit steep) Yep. the O-1 doesn't look too good, but I've seen much worse rebuilt, and since most of bits are stock Cessna (170/180?) I guess it's "do able".... just depends on how ...

Re: Sunny, Sun 'n Fun 2011

Thanks for the comments. The Thursday storm wrecked several exhibitors (and campers) tents, and between 20-40 aircraft were wrecked as well. Tons of gravel were poured onto the car lots (effectively just a big field on the south side of the airport) and large earth movers used to try and squeeze out...

Sunny, Sun 'n Fun 2011

For those that don't know, this years Sun 'n Fun Fly in at Lakeland Florida was affected by a severe (and I mean severe) storm last Thursday. Thankfully no-one was hurt badly, but several aircraft were wrecked and the showground was swamped... The organisers (all volunteers) worked really hard to cl...

Hi BEX,

What were you flying?

I was in Cessna 150A G-ARFO (known to many here). Popped down to PLH for old times sake.

(a looooong time ago I used to load baggage onto BN2a's and DHC6's here. )

Re: Helicopters & Others At Plymouth

Nice pictures from an aerodrome who's future looks uncertain, to say the least.

Didn't realise that the Dash 8 was WFU, had to taxy around it on Wednesday to get to the Pumps and I thought it looked a bit closed up.

The plan (apparently) is to replace the ATC service with AFISOs, they're Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officers for those that don't know. The service they provide is suffixed "information" (as in Goodwood Information) and is more than adequate for most VFR type operations. What thi...

Nobody has mentioned the DHC1 Chipmunk. First flown 1946 and entered RAF service in 1950..... and still in service with the RAF BBMF today! (oh and the RNHF have one as well!)
