Day out with 101 Squadron 1994

I've been meaning to put these up for a while. Excuse the poorish scans, my scanner is positively ancient. Anyway, thanks to a very good friend, I, and a few of my colleagues had a tanker trip courtesy of 101 Squadron back in 1994. A great day out, cut short by a cracked P2 windscreen so not much tr...

Re: Squadron BBC series

but what about that pilotless Harrier end of 80s As I recall this was an early GR5 on a test flight from Dunsfold. As far as I remember the investigation concluded that the pilot had adjusted the height of the seat after take-off, and before commencing a timed climb. Unfortunately there was a loose...

Near Misses
They would be collisions then. :dizzy: :wall:

In which case I'm surprised the UK military have any aircraft left at all.

The last Typhoon shot is interesting. Look at the canopy, then look behind at the ridge line.

Refraction, I guess.

Cracking pictures.

Nice Pictures! (..... and I was there too, but you know that... No piccies though ) Some info about the newly restored Hiller 12. Its quite historic as it was the LAPD's very first Police Helicopter. Here's a picture of it in LA in the 1960's http://www.policehelicopterpilot.com/storage/UH-12%20hill...

Re: Sun 'n Fun 2010

I'd recommend a visit. Friday was nice, but these were taken on the Saturday, which started out fine and sunny and slowly deteriorated to the mucky grey you see in the C17 pic.

Sunday was a wash out...

Great pictures, thanks for posting, they've brought back a lot of memories. Mildenhall '77, cos I couldn't go and had to look at my all my mates slides. Greenham '77 cos I was there. The Shoreham Caribou, cos I was there as well. and the RANCO PA31.... cos I used to clean it! Thanks again, best wish...

Re: Season Opener Popham 01/01/2010

Very nice set of pictures.....

The identity of the Cub isn't G-BFZD though, as ZD is a Cessna 182. I think it's J3 G-AIIH, recently repainted and re-engined (actually, quite a lot of things re-done)

Thanks for sharing the pix

Re: Red Arrows Hawks @ 30

The Red Arrows were formed in 1965.

Yes, I appreciate that (and indeed used to watch the Gnats in the 1960s) but the thread is about RAFATs first display using the Hawk. Perhaps my English wasn't the best, apologies.

Re: Red Arrows Hawks @ 30

Not sure it helps, but just for the record, on the wall outside the Radar Room at RAE Farnborough, there used to be a picture of 9 Hawks (in various different schemes) in formation. As far as I remember it was taken at the 1976 SBAC show. Yes, 1976 two full years before the RAFAT began display flyin...

Some nice pictures.

I can certainly vouch for the low cloud base in the morning. It was (ahem) somewhat less than 800ft when I delivered 'FO for maintenance about 10ish.

Re: Canberra - target towing

I too grew up in the Plymouth area and have fond memories of HMS Cambridge. FRADU Canberra TT18s were regulars as were their Hunter GA11s. 7 Squadron TT18s would sometimes stand in, but up until the early 1980s I don't recall any 100sqdn a/c.....bit far from E Anglia, especially when St.Mawgan and Ye...

Re: RAF DA-42s at Old Sarum

The registration would originally have been etched on a small black panel just above the air vent on the left hand (P1) instrument panel. (as per all Civil a/c) When "transferred" to the MoD the panel was probably left in place. Still curious as to who was driving the aeroplanes after they...

Re: RAF DA-42s at Old Sarum

All three used G-DOS* callsigns on the R/T.
.

Which is curious, because 'SA and 'SB have been deregistered and "transferred to MoD" according to the CAA's G-INFO.

'SC remains registered.
