Re: EF-S lens options - 17-55 or 15-85 IS?

Loving the Escort shots!

Maisie I'd go with the 15-85 IS - you'll use the extra reach a lot on a 'walkabout'. As mentioned in another thread, I have the older 17-85 IS USM and it's great. I lust after a 24-105 L, but on 1.6 crop factor body it isn't wide angle enough for me.

Re: New Lens Options

Errr....why do you keep going on about cleaning sensors ?? The issue being discussed was DUST INSIDE THE LENS caused by the suction-like action of the 100-400L's method of zooming ( trombone rather than twist ) I think you've forgotten that lenses with a twist zoom ring usually have part of the len...

Re: Landacape and General Purpose Lens

If you're using a 1.6 crop factor body (EOS x0D or EOS x00D) then that is a great 'walkabout' lens. I have the slightly older 17-85 IS USM and love it. I would like a 24-105L for the sheer quality of it, but 24mm doesn't provide much wide-angle coverage on a 1.6x crop factor body.

Re: New Orleans and Chicago June 2013 - Pic heavy

Plenty of us like civvies, so they're definitely of interest. The Piedmont retrojet is a great catch - reminds of the 767s that used to visit Gatwick in the 80s before USAir bought them. Good you caught American MD-80s before they're withdrawn from service too.

Probably due to the numerous medevac flights into there in recent years - the main hospital to treat injured servicemen being in Selly Oak, Birmingham

Re: What a difference

as annoying as the group of drunk campers, who thought they were at a festival, with a loud speaker and very loud music from 12.45 am to 1.30 am. does this happen at all the camp sites? In my experience yes. We gave up camping 20 years ago mainly due to such nonsense - at campsites near to Boscombe...

I think you're in a minority there! The C-27 display is still an awesome spectacle, and indeed this year's was better than ever. I and plenty of others in FRIAT thought so, and voted it the winner of the As the Crow Flies trophy.

That was me; I was undertaking a little server maintenance earlier which led to my test message being served up very briefly instead of the UKAR sites.

I just checked by playing this video and at around 1'17" you can clearly see the big hangar behind the two with banners is no more:

If that's the only way to keep the Canberra flying, then fine by me.

And yes, I was very grateful that Red Bull kept the Sea Vixen flying, and had no problem with them wanting to paint it in their colours.

Re: Waddington Airshow 2013 - share your thoughts

We had a thoroughly enjoyable day yesterday. Plenty of highlights in the flying display - Viggen, Tunnan, Sentinel/Reds flypast, Lancaster/Tornado flypast, Chinook, Typhoon and all three F-16s were great, and no complaints about the rest either. Less military in the static can't be helped, but some ...

Somthing they have done quite often in the past at various show, so I doubt very much them appearing on one day only is at RIAT's request.

I tell you what - you go once every two years and let the rest of us enjoy it annually. This year's show doesn't look as though it'll reach the lofty heights of last year's, but it's still going to be a cracking good show.

I heard good things about them so I bought a second hand battery grip from them last year with no issues. On my recommendation a friend bought a second hand lens from them, again with no issues.
